Default Tires, Screws, Damage by dealer....Oh My!

So, I guess I just want to express my disappointment with my dealer. I think my feeling are hurt. I got a screw in my front tire and was pretty sure it would need to be replaced, not patched. I did purchase the add on package for tires and wheel damage so the tire replacement would be no cost. They replace the tire and when I get home, I notice my rim spoke is scratched. Not a hairline scratch either. I called to inform the dealership, my service tech calls me back and asks "is this the damage on the spoke of the wheel"? I was surprised she knew of the damage location but says her team said they noticed the scratch but didn't document it so they will go ahead and fix it. What? I have nothing to gain by blaming Jag, my wheel package covers re-finishing once a year. I just can't believe they said it was there before. I am meticulous about my car, I don't even let them wash it. I handwash myself only. I just looked at that tire before I drove to the dealership. I got the size info off it so I could price out three more since they were replacing one.

They are fixing it, I'm just bothered that they said it was there beforehand.

If they are fixing it at no charge, then have some sympathy for some tech that is trying to get out of being yelled at/fired for this snafu.

I don't want to be that person that does a walk around before and after every service. I want to trust my dealership. They just texted me an apology so that's something.

I do full walk-around after every service, including opening hood and checking fluid levels before driving off.

+1. I’ve had just too much damage done to my cars by servicing dealers over the years. The mini dealers have been the worst.

++1. My two worst damage issues when getting my car back after service were finding a screwdriver stuck through the leather of the drivers seat (mechanic sat in the car with screwdriver in his back pocket while bringing it around front) and on a different car finding one side of the car spattered with black undercoating material.

As a result of those two episodes and many others I have learned to always do a thorough check of everything before I leave the dealer after a service. I only bring my cars in for dealer service if I have no choice otherwise I do all the work on my cars.

I particularly liked the time the Ford tech used an impact wrench on the locking nut adapter that was attached to the lug wrench with steel cable. Tore the adapter off the wrench, and he then left the adapter sitting on his bench. Luckily, one of the wheels wasn't seated right, so I went right back...
