Default Torque Pro questions

Background: MY14 V6S ‘vert.

I’ve purchased a VeePeak OBD2 Bluetooth device, and downloaded TorquePro to my iPhone. I’d like to see a real coolant temp display(dodged bullet with blown y pipe), boost pressure, oil pressure, etc. some questions I’ve not been able to resolve with forum search:

1. Torque pro takes me to some sort of sports betting site to “set up an account”. Is that legit?
2. Looks like a subscription ($59/year) required.
3. Can I leave VeePeak in OBD port without inducing the dreaded battery drain?
4. Other useful parameters to watch?

thanks to all!

Hello, please be careful.

I also use the Pro version and I haven't received any notification about an additional subscription.

You already pay the developer for the Pro version.

There is no subscription required for Torque Pro that I am aware of. I have used the Pro version of the app for years and never paid anything beyond the initial app upgrade to Pro in the app store.

There are several Jaguar-specific PIDs that are very useful. Take a look here for starters - https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...p-more-213503/

Regarding leaving an OBD reader in the port, the issue with the port staying open or powered seems to be vehicle-specific. I have tried multiple OBD devices and shutdown methods with my 2016 F-Type and they all leave the port open, requiring a battery disconnect to prevent battery drain. Others don't have the issue at all (and I'm quite jealous of them). You will likely just have to try it with your car and see what happens.

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents worth on the obd drain. I wanted to use AAtorque with my car to display the temps on android auto but found I was having the battery drain issue. After much research and trial and error I found the cause.
Simply put the car expects request in a very soecific format. Most if not all obd adapters use the same ISO format for requests. I built an obd sniffer and watched what happened when I requested the rpm. Normally your vehicle would reply with the engine rpm but the F Type replies with both the engine and transmission and causes a can bus error which keeps either the gateway module or the instrument panel awake. The solution is to use the uds format.
I was unable to find an adapter that uses this specifically so I made my own. Since using this format I've had no issues with the battery drain at all. It may be possible to use custom pids with torque pro that will be in the uds format. I can go into more detail if anyone's interested. Currently I monitor coolant temp, engine oil temp, transmission temperature, and rear differential temp. Car is a 2016 F type R.

Very interesting find. Please do share the details.

I thought this Torque app stuff was Android only?

Is this one being referred to on iPhone something named the same but different? Does this iPhone one have all the same datapoints?

Correct - Torque is only available on Android. It's the primary reason I am the only one in my family that is still Android. I catch a lot of grief from my iPhone loving wife and kids, but Torque keeps me on Android 😄.

Okay, well the OP is talking Torque on his iPhone. Confusing.

I missed that detail in the OP's post. That is likely why he is getting odd account setup info and subscription-based fees. Sounds like someone is trying to capitalize on the real Torque app by creating a fake iOS version.

Yeah, something weird there for sure. The only one that sounds decent for both Android and iOS is that ODB Fusion software. Pretty flexible in that it is functional cross platform AND it works very well with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Not sure if it’s totally as capable as the Android-only original Torque software, but it seems that it has most of the data points needed and is a bit more refined.

Hello,
FWIW I have had a vLinker FS OBD reader plugged in the last 6 months and use it with CarScanner IOS app. This can display text via CarPlay. Car is a 2022 model and I have not had any battery drain issues with it so far.

Thanks to everyone for the help/information. The TorquePro iOS app looks like it is a scam.
