Default Traction Control?

I drove my F-Type Base in the wet for the first time. I was going 20 on second gear in DSC mode, eased down the throttle to about 1/3, and got a lot of wheelspin - and mild wheel hop. Same thing in TracDSC. No I didn't turn off the nannies and test it that way..

I thought that Traction Control was a part of DSC and would pretty much eliminate wheelspin. Is it:
1. I don't understand Traction Control.
2. Traction Control isn't as good as I think it should be.
3. I don't have something set correctly (don't even know what ;-)
4. Something's wrong with my car.
5. Something I haven't thought of yet.

Thanks for your observations!

Something may be wrong. I can get mild slippage, but that is immediately followed by some very aggressive power reduction (full DSC).

agreed, a month ago I was sat on an uphill section of a road covered in compacted snow/ice which had a layer of meltwater on top. Traction control just kept limiting power right down to idle speed lol

The traction control on my MY15 R rwd let me play a little before it intervene (some wheelspinn and tail movement). If I don't "overdo" it, it intervenes also rather soft and not abrupt. This is when fully on.

ps: and the lower the speed is, the more it seems to let me get away with before it intervenes.

Took it to the dealer. We drove it around the parking lot with full DSC, getting enough wheelspin to get axle hop. Then he said "Well, they all do that."

Oh well, my job is to drive the car within the limits it sets, not what I want it to do... Just screwing around, I carried wheelspin all the way up to 70 mph on the way home. I guess its just all that horsepower - in a Base!

Hence my earlier question!
Get rid of those tyres and put some Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S on instead and you will see a world of difference.

I don't care if I'm running slicks - traction control should not allow enough wheelspin to get axle hop!!!!

And YES, I'll get Michelin's as soon as I can wear the tires or my wife down, whichever comes first.

Came across this but I have no background in car engineering. Maybe some of our more knowledgeable members can comment on this articles suggestions.

Certainly all makes sense, but I’ve never experienced wheel hop with the F-Type. If I ever developed wheel hop, I would immediately suspect bad shocks.

"They all do that"??? Probably the first wheel-hopping F-type he (or any dealer) has ever seen! Mine pulls power with minimal wheelspin, and YOU are being fed a line of BS. Your traction control is TU.

i will also report wheel spin then wheel hop if the tires are cold, once they are warmed up (P-Zero's take a few miles before they are warm) the wheelspin will smooth out. my RWD S V8 will wheel hop so bad it spills your drink when its cold. 17,000 miles i don't think its shocks. "they all do it" i assumed when tires are cold.

This could well be the case. I never get on it hard before the tires (and engine) are properly warmed up. Hence, never experience wheel hop.
