Default Trade???

I owned a White 14 "S" convertible for two years and my current white 16 "R" convertible for over two. I really wasn't unhappy with the S - I just wanted to experience the V8. Now I have the chance to trade the "R" for a loaded 20 silver/red R Dynamic coupe at a fair price, if the dealer and I can get together. [Boy, these cars have gotten expensive, 97K MSRP for the coupe.] I've had twelve convertibles in a row including Corvettes, MB's and a BMW, and I think the coupe looks better especially with the top up. The silver coupe is like new having been owned for only one year with 7K miles, and I extend my warranty for five years to 2026.

What do you guys think?

I fell in love with the F Type after driving an early V8 roadster in New Mexico. That said, when the Coupe came out I was bowled over by it's looks...which led to my white Coupe in the garage. That said, while I've had a number of convertibles, I tend to like coupes much more...but it seems your history leans more towards soft tops. I don't think there's a discernible difference between the two from a pure driving dynamics perspective. Bottom line, I'd offer that the convertible experience you'll lose when driving has to be an effective trade off for those times when you're looking at it.

I'm not a convertible person at all for various reasons but going from a 'vert to the coupe in the F Type you will notice that it is nowhere near as loud, if exhaust note is your thing.

The soft-top looks gorgeous with the roof down, the coupe looks gorgeous all the time.
Especially with the non-SVR fixed rear spoiler (I admit I'm biased!)...

I am with you! Nothing against convertibles either, and to each his own...But I like the coupe look and love the JLR fixed-wing too. OP sounds like convertibles are the thing...so really a personal choice...Do not think either will leave you grimacing

I think trading in one F-type for another is giant waste of money. You get to eat depreciation and dealer fees all over again without getting much new in return. If you like your F-type, keep it. If you want a new car, get something different.

I'm starting to tire of convertibles at my age. Today it's in the 40's in Atlanta, and thirty years ago I would have thought nothing about putting on a heavy jacket and driving top down. Now, I wouldn't even consider it, so I drove my electric DD. My first car was a convertible as was my first new car, a TR 4, but I no longer leave the top down twelve months a year. I tracked the Corvettes and the SLK, but I'm too old now think about it. Consequently, I don't need the "R" for 45 and 70 MPH speed limits I drive today today just to listen to the exhaust.

The "R" is still in great shape, and the R Dynamic is a new car at less than 60% of the original MSRP. Plus, I have to think of the warranty. I wouldn't drive a Jaguar w/o a factory warranty. With the coupe I won' have to worry about finding a "good" 3rd party one and worrying if it will pay for what I need. And I won't do it if I can't get together with the dealer anyway.

BTW, I heard the coupe's exhaust, and it sounded just like my 2015 "S".

Cheers, when I say it isnt as loud, I mean from inside the car. Unfortunately the fixed rear windows block out a fair bit of noise, so with the XKR and the F Type coupes the sound is nowhere near as loud as it is in the 'vert with the top down. It's still pretty loud, though, even with the windows up.

Everyones taste is different. When I saw one of these for the first time it was a BRG coupe, and it was all over, still is, most beautiful car on the road IMO. Been there, done that with verts. No offense but the drop top looks like it had a bad thigh and *** transplant to me. 😉

Default Convert to coupe

I went from red S convertible to red S coupe because of the looks. I love both cars, and would be happy with either one. There doesn’t seem to be much difference to me in handling, but I have to say that somehow the coupe seems “bigger” when driving it. I didn’t like the way it looked out the back in the mirror, so I removed the “package shelf” and disabled the spoiler (switchable). Much more agreeable look in the mirror now. It might give a little more exhaust sound in the cabin too, but I didn’t do an A vs B test. My two cents, you can’t go wrong either way!

I've been here along time and always push the vert for the top down experience, but I live in Vegas, so can use alot including today. But I immediatly thought the coupe was better looking!

I forgot to mention it in my earlier post, but my coupe has the glass roof, and it's a pretty open feeling with the shade open. Not the same as the convertible, for sure, but still not as claustrophobic as the metal roof.

Also, the convertible turned heads wherever we went in it, especially with the top down. More looks and questions than any car I've ever owned. The coupe, even in the same color, gets noticed, but not like the convertible did. With the top down, I don't think there's a better looking convertible on the road.

The coupe is beautiful, but I bought mine specifically because it's a roadster. Put me in the drop-top camp.

OK Guys, I went and did it. Now the only question is, can I get used to a top over my head? Of course all my DD's have been hardtops, but that's different. I feel good about getting a 2020, one year old car [ bought 11/19/2019 - traded for a LR 11/15/2020] for about 60% of the MSRP with only 7700 miles. I don't really miss the 550 HP on the street, the 380 hp of the R Dynamic is enough since I won't track the car. Only time will tell if I made a mistake or not.

Well done. Looks great in silver. You can always add a VAP tune/pulley upgrade if you miss the extra power.
