Turbo 4-cyl F-Type has arrived...
As I said a few weeks ago - if Lambo put a 4cyl in their Huracan would you buy it?
I wonder if the CCB option will be available for the 4cyl as this is a feature I feel all sports cars in this class should have a standard (perhaps minus the carbon rotors) and will help to differentiate visually, at a minimum, the 4cyl.
In my opinion, the reduced entry price and spec causes the entire F-Type range to lose exclusivity.

I'm not certain why exclusivity is such a desirable commodity, but dropping the price of an F-Type by $3k or even 5k will not have the effect of doubling sales (at least in the US). In a land of nothing but SUVs and even new MINIs the size of barns, what keeps this car exclusive is having only 2 seats. Even if sales double, I might see another F-Type once every 2 months instead of once every 4. On the other hand, I see Porsches and Maseratis just about every day.
Again... like $1500 is gonna make a goddamn difference. People are just looking for something to bitch about here.
Part of what attracted me to the F-Type is that I don't see them every day. I see 911s every day. If the sales increase significantly and I'm next to another F-Type at every other light I pull up to then it'll be time to go find a new toy.
I am thinking we will see the V6 disappear from the lineup soon.
Porsche got rid of the flat six in the Cayman / Boxster and went to a Turbo 4 so don't see this as being much different.
I don't think this is going to be a sucess. My guess is that the 4-pot in this car will be short lived. It's not a good combination. This car is not made for a small displacement engine....
in old Lambo fashion they are going to call that hurricane speciale or performance and 20k price increase
I think a lot of current owners think this way.. IMO, they are diluting the model line-up too much and I do believe it's going to cost them some of their current clientele.
The fact you only hear a tiny bit of the engine (it sounds awful) plus the fact they play music over the driving scenes where you might otherwise be able to hear it..says all I need to know.
One of the primary reasons I bought my F-Type over any other car was the intoxicating exhaust note...but this leaves me stone cold.

On the contrary I would love to see many more ftype's abound.
When the ftype was introduced it was simply too much in the U.S. and very few cars could be bought except at the very high end. Bringing a lighter version to market might surprise us all especially after a tuner fiddles with the motor. Sour grapes could be a lowly
V6-s trying to keep up with a bumped up four cylinder weighing 100lbs less over the front axle. As for exclusivity come on gang a car is not your self esteem.... is it?

I think it's mainly about the loss of the Ford built AJ126 and AJ133 engines in the next year or two, so JLR have no choice but to find at least two replacements.
They have invested $billions in the new Ingenium, which so far only comes as an I4, although I understand an I6 is not far away.
So putting two and two together, it makes sense to ease in an Ingenium I4 replacement for the base V6 with some overlap before the V6 goes the way of the Dodo.

But i do agree that this car should never have a 4 cylinder motor for several reasons already mentioned in this long thread. The exhaust tone sounds like a fart. Aside from the cars looks, it's allure is the exhaust tone. Take that away and you decrease the cars overall image.
My question to all of you is this, if Jaguar decided to go the turbo route for its V8 engines, won't the whole turbo setup mute the cars exhaust notes and be no where near the sound level of the supercharger setup. BMW engines are turbo and it sounds like garbage to me, including the V8 engines from the ///M division.

The 4-pot will only come in AT. If you want a manual, it's only available in the V6....
