Yep, the Mustang 2.0 is the Ford EcoBoost which JLR used for quite a few years, but now they are switching over to the new Ingenium fourpots.

"have you considered that the 4 banger might not be destined for the U.S. market? Everybody already knows that the U.S. male ego is too insecure not to crave the biggest displacement engine. However, there are parts of the world where displacement is heavily taxed and Jag is looking to penetrate those markets"

Agreed, let's not forget Jaguar's home market in the UK where gas is around $8 gallon, those fuel consumption figures quoted of twice the V6 would be hugely attractive to avoid the oil burner option....

I like my V6, I couldn't really justify the jump to the V8 especially with VAP's helpful tune and pulley. I bear no animosity to a four pot F-Type. If I wanted to be driving something in the exclusive club, I would search out a Wartburg ;-)

Since when is there a 2.0L Mustang? The Mustang has a 2.3L Ecoboost which is again different to the 2.0L Ford unit that JLR was using before they launched the Ingenium.

Keep pounding the pitchforks and relight the torches to keep out those 4 bangers from US shores. I bought the R thinking it would be an instant classic in a short number of years.

That's what I don't understand. Why would anyone buy the I4 when the V6 is just a little bit more money?

When JLR advertises the likely lease price of $599 month. This engine variant is going to be advertised to those people who want the F-Type style at a low operating cost, including good gas mileage.

Gents: The 4 banger turbo has reached US shores. My son is an automotive journalist and is with the car right now at the New York International Auto Show Press Preview. He has pictures he is sending me in the next hour or so and I'll post them. Its as we heard 4 cylinder twin turbo. Ive asked him to send me the specs. His initial thoughts on it are that he seems intrigued by it and likes the revised interior and the seats.

Will post as soon as I get the photos.

But lease prices are based on the price of the car, so wouldn't the lease price of the V6 just be a little more than the I4?

As a side note, I don't have a big problem with them adding an entry level car (if $1500 less actually makes a big difference at all) But I do not like when they make every version of the car look alike except for the badging. I think there should be some design differentiation between the models . The single mating orafice on the I4 isn't enough IMO. A good example IMO is the differences between the Maserati GT Sport and the MC. At first glance you know they're both Maserati's but when you look closer you can see they are not the same model.

On the UK site, the 2.0 is £49,900 and the 3.0 340 is £52,265.

Difference of £2,365 or $1500-$2000...

Edit: my drunken maths have been pointed in a subsequent post

Let's wait till they hit us, Canada market and car prices aren't exactly base on conversion rate (that effect it, but won't determine the final price), I have a feeling they are going to be like Mustangs from now on everybody will buy one

I think you're getting your conversions backwards as that would be about $3,000 USD. (.8GBP = 1USD)

Yep, let's wait and see, but you should know you get a great deal on them in the US compared to the country where they're actually assembled! $61,400 for 3.0 340 over there, that's a conversion rate of around 1.18 (dollars to pound) whereas current currency rate is more like 1.25 (used to be 1.5, but now it's BAD for us Brits to visit US!).

The difference is between an auto 4 and a manual 6. Usually autos have at least a couple of grand premium, so like for like the difference would be maybe $6K (guesstimmate).

Then (based on my experience here between V6S F type and turbo 4 XE) the petrol running cost will be a bit better. Allowing for friendly estimates, there will still be a saving there of maybe $20 per week for someone doing 10,000km per annum at our prices, so about $1,000 per annum. Less for you with cheaper juice.

Then there should also be an insurance saving and a registration saving (at least there is here) of maybe another $1,000 per annum.

So in the end if you were buying the 4 here, you would save about $15K at the front end, then about $2K per year of ownership. For you the front end saving would be a lot less.

It wouldnt influence my decision, but I'm sure it would factor in to some, especially if the 4 handles better which I think it will.

Interesting reading the negative comments about the 4 cylinder engines. Having lived and worked in England all for my life, one company name became synonymous with producing high power output, 2 litre, 4 cylinder turbocharged engines, they worked closely with Ford producing some extremely rapid Ford performance cars some with 4 wheel drive, they were very competitive in producing F1 engines and the name incase anyone hadn't worked it out already is Cosworth.

Looking at older cars like the Cosworth Escort's and Cosworth Sierra's achieving 300 to 400bhp was not overly difficult and consider that was 1990s tech?

The weight saving coupled with the F type handling package will produce something extremely capable. Something exciting to look forward to.
I believe Jaguar are looking to place the same engines in other models.

I hear what you're saying, but if I'm in the market for a £50k+ car, and after hearing the sound of a V6 F-Type for only a few pennies more, I'd want the more fruitier sounding engine. If I was really into 4-cylinders, I'd buy a Focus RS instead, save a pile of cash and have a car that outperforms the F in many ways and is considerably rarer.

But obviously that's just me!
