Upper mounts worn out has any one seen this before

Default Upper mounts worn out has any one seen this before

Hit a giant pothole and the car started feeling like the front passenger shock had blown. Took it on the dealer and was told the upper mount was worn out I took a look under the hood and saw this. It's the same on both sides looks deteriorated.

2106 f type r 20000 miles lowered on h&r

That looks like organic material to me. Could a mouse have gotten in there and made a home?

Unfortunately yes. The material disintegrates with age, apparently. Check out this thread--you'll see a surprisingly similar photo:

Yes this exact same thing happens on XJ's as well. The real key is the crumbles from the disintegrating foam.
As it gets worse you can see the shaft will start to move from the center position to one side or the other.
The thread posted above also has a good picture of when the shaft starts to get miss-aligned and pushed over to one side.
