Default US 3G Shutdown

So I've been reading various threads about this for a while and it finally happened here (California) - AT&T switched off their 3G a few weeks back and ever since, my InControl system (MY2018 R) stopped connecting to the internet and I don't get traffic info and can't sync routes

Did anybody ever get a proper answer from JLR about what they're doing about this? Or is it still a big fat nothing? I did email customer relations a couple weeks ago and that of course went into the pits of nothingness...

And now my telematics (remote start, status etc.) stopped working a couple of days ago too, presumably due to 2G switchoff. Bit of a disaster! Don't suppose anyone has contact details for JLR customer service beyond their US email address? I would contact the dealership but they've been pretty awful with everything so far including warranty work (even damaged the car last time I took it in )

Quick update because my telematics also failed now (can't remote control car, tried to remove car from my InControl account and it's stuck in 'removal')

I called Jaguar Customer Service who said the TCU needs updated (even though I updated the cars firmware to 21B when it came out a few months ago - it doesn't update the TCU too?). They didn't say anything about the loss of 3G to InControl. I have the car in the dealership in a couple of weeks and I'll ask them to look at both... I'm not hopeful though...

They also mentioned that car removal from InControl is stuck because of the TCU issue and will apparently time out after 7 days (what a system!)

Separate issues, kinda. AT&T actually shut 3G down in February. Plus, your 2018 should be 4G. It’s quite likely your TCU just quit. I would take it to the dealer to confirm.

Yeah I was confused by the Feb date for AT&T as well... AT&T 3G was still working fine here up until 2 weeks ago (InControl was connecting fine up until then). And then one day it just refused to find any signal any more (then telematics quit 3 days ago). Maybe they were just delayed on the switchoff around CA. It's never been 4G since the day I got it, was 3G from day 1 :-( If you reckon it already has a 4G modem in it though that's giving me some confidence the dealer should be able to fix it...

Booked in for 2 weeks for service (plus my electronic tailgate stopped closing properly 3 weeks ago so they need to fix that too!), let's see what they can do with both the TCU and InControl connectivity...

I bought my 2018 400 sport in early May and handed it off to my dealer in Bethesda, MD on June 13th to do the 3G to 4G/5G/LTE update. They had to remove the "brain" and send it to New Jersey for the new updated version swap. I literally got my car back earlier today, almost 4 weeks later. It was covered under warranty and should now work just fine. I just need to talk to AT&T or my T-Mobile to get a monthly sim card that's in the car now activated and all of the live traffic, etc. will work fine. It was a nightmare waiting for almost a month to get my car back, but it's all over now.

My 2016 is working just fine right now. iPhone app is up to date. I think JLR is currently using 2G...not sure on their next step(s) but for my needs, the app is great. (remote start mostly for ice melting/softening in super cold days in winter...). There was a huge thread on this very topic earlier. So far JLR has managed this seemlessly - hopefully it will just stay like this. I am super happy overall with them...just great stuff and common sense designs in the car....oddly my favorite car interface of all time and I realize I am in the minority, but knobs for knob things, tech for tech things, etc. I added wireless carplay for about 450 all in and now the car is equal in my mind if not superior the the current tech in cars...I like knobs. And buttons.

Test drove a Golf R for kicks....horrendous inteface on every level...a total disaster of a car. VAG should fire they interior people en masse.

what wireless CarPlay did you go with? UAD costs quite a bit more these days. Joyeauto?

I suspect a lot of the wireless options all are from the same place....my unit came from a "store" called carsight. Great service from them. Works great.

The higher prices are worth it if you want support...I took a gamble and it is working out well. It could die any day...and that would be something I'd likely address with just getting another one.....

On my 2018, the remote start still works, but the nav says it can't get real-time updates. It says it can't connect. Have to figure out why since the 2018 is supposed to have kept working. It would be tough for them to make it more confusing as to what is actually in the car and what each thing can do.

Previously on my ‘18 XE, 4G occasionally wouldn’t connect until I popped the SIM card out and plugged it back in. Hasn’t happened lately, so perhaps an OTA update fixed it.

Oh no... that month wait is brutal! I'll make sure I check with the dealer that that isn't what's going to happen. I have a courtesy car from them at least but I didn't buy the car for it to sit in a workshop (recently lost it for a week because the coolant system went bye-bye and various other problems including the carpet not fitting properly, luckily all under warranty

Yeah remote start/telematics uses 2G which is why it kept working after the InControl 3G system went down... but not sure why my telematics randomly gave up the ghost. Not sure I understand the TCU not updating when I did the latest 22B firmware update (via USB) so not sure if I fully believe customer services but I'll let the dealer figure that one out since I don't have the tools to debug it...

I noticed that with UAD too! First thing I did when I got the car was got the price and instruction video from UAD and the price was just wild, especially for getting it to the US

Oh nice, I've been looking for a cheaper UAD alternative straight from closer to the factory, I assume that's the AliExpress store? Those prices look MUCH better...

Edit: Never mind - they only seem to have units for Bosch/Harman systems (pre-2018). They don't have the system for the 2018 ICTP (with SIM card) that UAD has (the IDCore IDC-ICTP8)

Yep, same boat as me! And yup, there was even a mid-MY refresh in 2018 from the 8" to the 10" InControl Pro. The latter takes the JLR carplay update (Project Sunrise... or did until they stopped it mid-rollout I guess?) and the former doesn't at all. The dealer I bought the car from even found it confusing... at first they told me the car would take the carplay update then they later corrected themselves when they realized it wouldn't

Yeah with my 3G there was regular SIM card pops outs and in when it wouldn't read the SIM, even the dealer encore service guy had to do it twice in front of me. But it just died completely when 3G went away a few weeks back so doesn't even get stuck on "Reading SIM" any more, just dead

I'm in the same boat. My 3G quit working last month (AT&T took a while to turn of 3G everywhere), but the 2G telematics still work fine. Mine still says reading SIM and tries but it never reads it (I even updated it with a fresh SIM from AT&T just to ensure that wasn't it. My car is technically still under warranty so I'd love to get it swapped out under warranty if that's even a possibility.

I did it under warranty, so I'd definitely reach out to your dealer and have them do right by you. If it helps for reference, my dealer is the North Bethesda one in MD.

Do you mind posting a scan of your service order (or at least the part with the brain/module swap)? I'd like to see what internal codes/language your service advisor used to get this swapped under warranty.

sure thing! I don't see where it lists the replaced 3G to 4/5G/LTE unit part number but they did mention replacing it in the write-up. SIM card would have taken 5 minutes.

I have posted before how my 2021 never has been able to connect to the internet. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Jaguar tech support, tried removing and reinstalling the SIM card and other troubleshooting techniques. The dealer checked all the obvious things and then suggested I leave the car while they tore apart the overhead and center consoles and panels behind the seats and started to trace the wiring and components looking for the fault.

At that point I gave up and declined the repair. No way did I want them to start tearing apart the interior. My Nav system works fine except I can't get map updates and can't get real time traffic or see the 3D maps. But I can connect fine with Android auto and use my WAZE traffic app. So I just live with it.

What will happen when 3G shuts down ? Well, as long as it doesn't get any worse than I live with now I'm not going to worry about it. Hell, I drove for 48 years without any kind of navigation system in my cars and always seemed to get where I was going and find my way home so as much as I like the convenience of a Nav system there are far worse things to worry about failing in my Jag than that.

You mean 2g, 3g is NOT being shut off since most people still have 3g.

Nope, something is wrong with YOUR car. Did you renew you in touch service plan?

3G is being shutdown and so is 2G. Date for 2G has not been announced yet.
