Default V8 Engine rattles a little bit, similar to a diesel!

Hello together,
maybe a stupid question? Is there a technical explanation why the V8 sounds more like a diesel engine, especially when the engine cover is removed? After I have heard this now in three different vehicles with different mileage from very few (5k miles) to almost (45k miles) always the same for me I assume there must be various technical reasons. The Jaguar dealer said only, quite normal V8 Jaguar engine sound with compressor in the engine compartment! You can only hear it if your ear is directly above the compressor with the hood open and the engine cover is removed.
In general, the V8 feels very smooth and extremely solid. Any reasons for this?

Thanks for any info on the subject...

Then it doesn't sound like a diesel! Diesel clack and clang from 50' away. If you put your ear up to any 4-cycle gas engine you will hear the valvetrain as it runs if you try hard enough.

OK Thank you, I don't mean putting your ear to the supercharger, you're leaning over the engine. So then you hear the valve train, right?
And is it all the same on V8 Engine, or is the Aj133 a liitle but louder as normal?

Yes, as a direct injection engine you can get a bit of that sound you're describing, particularly on start-up when they are cold. It's not abnormal. That said, make sure you're not hearing rattling from the supercharger coupler, because those are known to fail (you can check by removing the belt, and checking the supercharger pulley for play.)

Thank you, yes I know, we tested this last week while Stage2 to Stage3 switch. I have Max. 1mm or less, I think a very low play on this... I hope this is normal...!

I agree with most everything that's been said, but....but no ones mentioned the chance you might have a bad fuel injector. Quite often, when one goes bad or fails, you will hear a sound much like you have described (clicking something like a diesel). That's a wild shot, you're likely OK, but that type of failure in an FI engine does happen.

is it possible to find defective injectors via a fault memory? Or via data, which I can read out with the VAP software, for example. There I see all the usual live data, which gives the electronics while driving so! So far I have found no abnormalities there.

SDD will tell you if you have a bad injector. One thing to note is Jaguar recommends the fuel injectors be replaced in banks rather than individually. Don't know why and many after market shops do replace them one at a time.
