Engine Reliability
Hello, everyone!
I am relatively new to this forum & I am planning on purchasing a pre-owned F-Type at the end of the year.
I have only ever leased vehicles, and I have never had a Jaguar before, so there will be a few firsts for me here.
My biggest question/concern is the reliability of these F-Types when it comes to their engines. Are the engines pretty solid, or are they prone to dying/failing.
Obviously, the last thing I want to happen is to purchase a $45,000 sports car & then have the engine fail on me. Do these cars have a decent reputation, or is a blown engine a legitimate concern I should potentially have?
Thanks in advance!

Every car, even a Camry, has issues and nuances. The above comments are spot on - the cars do well with frequent oil changes and don't like being allowed to overheat. Changing fluids (tranny, diffs, transfer case) when due and just generall common sense (mechanical sympathy) will serve you well. These are really great cars.
Here's just one neat tidbit (per Harry Metcalfe of Harry's Garage on YouTube - in his F-Type P450 review):
The OEM wheels and suspension have to pass Land Rover 45mph curb strike standards....let a Porsche try that!
I happen to love mine - it is a really underappreciated car. It is a worthy successor to the E-type, being both well designed and well made.
And this forum is full of wisdom and information and kind people.
Good luck!

To answer your question, let me use your words: the engines are far more than “pretty solid” and they are not the least bit prone to “dying/failing”.
But I did have a person waiting at the fuel pump as I was filling my F-Type tell me (after admiring the Jaguar) that she had been told “that Jaguars stop in the middle of nowhere for no reason”. She was driving a BMW and BMW drivers know a lot about that sort of thing. (I used to own a BMW) ☺️
The engines used in the F-Type are fitted to other models of Jaguars and to Range Rovers. They are sturdy, reliable, awesomely powerful and well engineered. You need have no fear in that respect…and they are stunningly beautiful.
But a used car of any make is a used car, so it would be advisable to have the car inspected, and to get a full service history.
One thing to note: you never stop at having just a first Jaguar. There is something intangibly addictive about them that no other make seems to achieve, so take this as a warning about certain addiction. I speak, as many of us do, from experience.

Very true, I'm on my fourth! Previously had a 2001 XK8, a 2004 XKR and a 2010 XKR, all of which proved to be very reliable.
Here and on Facebook forums you'll find a lot of people who daily-drive their F-Types. I daily mine.
I find the F to be a unique intersection of head turning but classic design, daily-drive/weekender comfort, and heart-racing performance. The value of the used cars is phenomenal - got mine 2.5 years old with remaining warranty for about 60% of MSRP. I have never once regretted it.

Should have added, I use mine every day in all weather. It is superb in rain, snow, and awful stuff too. The wipers and heated front and rear windscreens are amazingly good. That suspension is not only tough but the active version is amazing. The plan is to keep it going to at least 200k miles....am at 56k now.
