Default Vacuum pump oil leak.

I have oil leaking from one of my AJ126's vacuum pump. Tech discovered it during a visit to the dealership for an alignment and check up. I didn't agree to have them replace the seals because I just did an oil change myself and have $70 worth of new Liqui Moly in it. They said it would need an oil change as the vacuum pump is below the oil level. I told them I'd do it on the next oil change which for me is 5,000 miles.

A) Am I being foolish about not changing the seals sooner? The video I watched showed the pump full of oil. A mechanical failure might be very not good.
B) In the video I didn't see a drop of oil come out of the motor when he removed the pump. Looked pretty easy, if you have a lift available. Seems DIYable.

Hi. I found my pump is weeping now. Did you end up doing this yourself? Lime you said, seems easy. Looks like the oil needs to be drained and than pump can be installed. Thanks.

Sorry I never followed up. I did replace the seals using the RKX replacements. I did it on ramps so I didn't loose any oil with the motor tipped up in front. I bought a Husky small torque wrench to get the specified torque values. Removing the vacuum brake pump is super easy. Changing the seals was not hard but, it leaked worse. I called my tech buddy and he said nope, doesn't work. The pumps start to leak because they warp and new seals won't solve that. Happens on Mini's all the time. New pump is the only thing that works. So I bought a new pump from FCP and swapped it out. Then my kids XE started leaking, Swapped it out. Then my wife's Pace started leaking. Swapped it out. Only one not yet leaking is the 92,000 mile 2016 Type R.

I am dealing with a vacuum pump leak currently. The dealer wanted $1500 to replace the pump, along with over 6k in other price-gouging repairs. I found the RKX replacement seals and ordered them before seeing this thread. I figured I'd give the seals a shot before ordering a new pump.

With that said - do I need to put any oil into the pump after replacing the seals and re-mounting? I saw a random comment on RKX' youtube video about this repair that said they blew their motor because they didn't pre-fill the vacuum pump. This seemed a but odd as none of the videos / guides I've read about replacing the seals/pump mention this.

I guess I can see there being a problem if someone completely cleaned and dried the vacuum pump and didn't drop a little lube in it before reassembly. There is a vane that slides back and forth and it would not like to get stuck. The new ones I have gotten from FCP all have had a little oil in them already and spin freely.

Just did a complete coolant pipe service on my Type and could finally see the vacuum pump with the intake, water pump, belts and tensioner out of the way. Sure enough it's dripping.

Returning to this thread for advice. How do I get the vacuum hose off of my pump (pic included). The example video from RKX showed a red tab on the hose clamp, but I don't have a red tab.

Press on the black keeper and pull grey fitting off the black nipple. Hard to get a finger in there but you can wedge a screwdriver shaft in-between the black keeper and the pump. Not a lot of pressure is required.

Just changed out the F Type’s pump. Not as much room to work with as the F Pace. Torque for tightening the two bolts is 12nm.

Traded my ‘17 F Pace S for a ‘17 F Pace S. Lost the 22’s but gained all black interior, pearl white paint and most importantly, tech package. Had to have CarPlay.

Took a torch with me when checking out the car on the lot. Sure enough, vacuum pump leaking like a sieve. Ordered new one from FCP, swapped out on ramps. Easy peasy.
