Default Warranty claim denied, who has a USA contact number to try for help?

My sunroof shade completely crapped out. It won't roll back in. It's binding somehow and I don't think it is a lubrication issue. The dealership says it's not covered under warranty, which seems pretty bad. Does anyone have a contact number I can call? I tried one and it was just for road side service, I tried another number and no luck there either.

should be able to call 1-800-4-Jaguar - I am in the midst of working with them - I use the term "working loosely" - they are terrible and I am being kind.

Terrible is beyond understatement.

You need to ask for warranty denials in writing.

What was the reason it wasn't covered? Is it under factory warranty or CPO? CPO doesn't cover nearly as much as factory from what ive seen.

I haven't looked over my warranty in detail in quite a while, but my recollection was that finish items were not covered for nearly as long as mechanical, and the sunroof shade likely falls in the former category.

I agree that finish items aren't covered and wouldn't have a big problem with that limitation. So, if the shade was pealing, I'd understand. But, the shade not rolling back seems clearly mechanical. If you're near the District, you have several dealerships around. (Even when they're commonly owned, the shops don't always work the same.) If a second opinion doesn't work, I'd assert that it happened as a result of something they did when they replaced the headliner.

OP, which dealer did you take it to? If you are in NoVa, it would be worth a trip up to Jag of West Columbia (MD).

Thanks everybody for the comments. I’m not in NoVa I’m in Virginia Beach. I did buy it at Chantilly Jaguar though. I have the extended warranty but it isn’t CPO.

It’s my understanding they listed it as CPO, didn’t sell it, then dropped the price. I bought it then bought the extended warranty from Chantilly jaguar. So I don’t know does that mean it is or isn’t a CPO?

I only called my dealer so far and the service person said it’s not covered, I then talked to the manager, she said it’s probable not covered but I agreed to take it in.(July 23)

Honestly, my dealership has had a lot of turn over in the service department, and the person I have had to over 5 years for the Jag and Rover was fired by the new service manager. It seems to me things aren’t running good there. My service person was awesome and now that she is gone, it’s really disappointing.

My concern is they pull the headliner to diagnose the issue, say its
not covered and put it all back together. Apparently, if it’s not a warranty issue and I decline to have them fix it, they will charge me to put it back together.

I'm trying to not have a huge bill if it’s not covered. I suspect if it’s not covered they won’t let me take the car with the headliner out. I think the side little window has to come out to get the headliner out of the car too.

If it’s not covered and the parts
cost a lot I’m thinking, rolling it back (open) and tinting the glass to keep some heat and uv out of the interior and roll on.

Maybe I got the cart before the horse by posting before I take the car in, but I don’t see a favorable outcome. I see them pulling the shade closed and saying nope that’s not covered, then I have the shade hanging down touching my head.

Any more ideas or opinions you guys or ladies have are appreciated.

You’re in a tough spot for sure, and I completely get your concern about tear down and then getting stuck with a bill to put it together and you’re left with the problem and less money to solve it. I would certainly continue to pursue getting an unequivocal commitment from the dealer to fix or a denial. Another idea is to find a custom upholstery shop, not just a basic headliner place; most usually repair 1986 Buick LeSabre headliners etc and not working on f-types. I have replace numerous headliners, both with and with sunroofs and with and with shades. The shade does indeed pose a challenge; however, if it can be built, it can be fixed. Dont get bogged down with worry about it; it doesn’t impact performance, and although I don’t drive mine daily, I almost never close the shade. Funny enough, I did notice mine being super hard to open and erratic based on weather conditions (hot and cool). I took mine in and had it fixed, which was a surprise because most just have kind of a soft/pliable track that doesn’t need lubricated. When I got it back, it was super smooth and very easy to move in any conditions.

Just to note, that will impact future sales if/when you decide to change vehicles. I would not recommend going that route.

It just didn’t seem like a lubrication issue, but we will see.

To me, it sounds like they sold you a third-party "warranty" (i.e. repair insurance). These are designed to deny coverage and something like this almost certainly not going to be covered.

Take it to independent mechanic, dealers exists to extract huge bills.

No dealer would agree to let certain money walk out of the door.

Then you will be driving a hacked-together F-type. Take it to a reputable independent mechanic in your area, get it working right, and pay fraction of dealer's costs.

For reference, here is where the sun roof shade resides. There are no reference to it in the shop manual, or pictures in the parts catalog. It comes with this $800 piece. Stay tuned
  • Genuine:
  • SKU:T2R16558
  • Other Names:Frame-Sunroof
  • Description:Coupe.
  • Notes:PARTS: Part includes sunshade.

Turns out they covered it under warranty. It appears it was binding as a result the leather headliner replacement last year. They broke the trim around the "roll bar" at the headliner side and tried to hide the damage with a repair of super glue, and double sided tape. They broke the attachment tabs and chose not to disclose it. Nope, I caught upon inspection and it was replaced. The service department was great, they weren't happy with the shoddy work of the mechanics. All is well, a good, polite attitude helps.
