Default Warranty issues from changing rims

Just been told by my warranty officer that changing my original wheels (base 18") to another OEM wheels (20" blade) which I purchased online would void my entire warranty according to Jaguar's warranty policy. Could anyone with more info chime in? Thank you.

Where are you located? If you are in the US I call bullshit. The car maker would have to prove that your modification caused any issue.

I'm located in Brunei. But wouldn't the Jaguar company policy be the same regardless of region? I was quite shocked to hear that the whole warranty would be void...

That's the stupidest thing i've ever heard. I would get a second opinion.

Technically because jaguar makes the OEM 20s and offers them on a model of this car they'd have to honor the warranty on everything except the rims themselves. And even then the dealer might help you out on those if there were a problem.

Jaguar has to adjust policies to comply with existing laws in any country they sell cars in

It defies logic. I'd get a second opinion.

In the USA it wouldn't be allowed....although some renegade or ill-informed dealer personnel might think otherwise until somebody sets them straight.

Cheers

Brunei is it's own kingdom with it's own laws, and if i'm not mistaken the Jaguar dealer there is an independent company, not owned/directed by JLR. So I would suggest that the dealer is making this statement to you, not Jaguar themselves.

I don't know the JLR company structure for SE Asia in detail, for example in Australia there is a JLR corporate office which is "above" the dealers. But in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, etc there is just dealers, who they report to I don't know exactly.

You might want to contact JLR at a corporate level to address this, it's just a question of who to ask...

I'll try and ask around the other car dealers. I'll also be speaking to the head of the warranty department in two weeks time. Hopefully what the officer told me is inaccurate as it does not sound logical to me.

That warranty disqualification is absurd to the extreme, given that the Blade is an OEM option for the car. Given the possible lack of consumer protection in Brunei, the dealer may be using this ploy to force all option/accessory purchases to go through them.

Default Wait a minute ....

Guys,
come on now ..... Don't you all know changing the rims causes the engine to explode from the added horse power. That dealer must be on some drugs !

That wouldn't fly in the US. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act would stop that cold.

Are there dealers in Sarawak or Saba? If you have an issue, just put original wheels back and don't say a word.

What does your written warranty policy sitting in your hands say?

I don't think so. Yeah I guess worst case scenario I'll be doing just that, albeit reluctantly..

They did not provide me a written warranty policy on my purchase over a year ago. But I've requested for it yesterday so currently waiting for them to send me one.

I have yet to see any car maker "have to prove" anything. They can deny your warranty and simply sit back and relax. It is then up to you to do the proving in a court of law under your time and your dime. If the court rules in your favor, they have to perform the work under warranty. No biggie to them. I have had legit warranty claims on brand new cars denied. I then had two choices: 1. Lawyer up or 2. Pay out of pocket and just fix the problem.
I didn't want to pay for a lawyer, so I just paid out of pocket and fixed it myself (or just lived with the problem). Complaining to corporate did nothing, nor did threatening them with legal action...blah blah blah...they could care less.

Nothing in that list of exclusions about different OEM wheels so you should tell your "warranty officer" to go take a hike!

Damage during maintence and damage from another part's failure? Does USA warranty have that?

Here in the US, under Magnuson-Moss, the manufacturer pays all legal costs if you prevail. There are plenty of ambulance chasers out there willing to take your case on contingency. I have successfully used one against BMW. Here's one such legal firm:Lemon Law | What is the Lemon Law | PA NJ NY MD | Free Help
