hey guys, I see a number of people mentioning that a lot of the weight on F type comes from motorized xxxx and yyyyy.


I was wondering how difficult/costly it would be to remove the motorized ac system pop-up, steering adjustment motors, automatic spoilers(change to a fixed one), and eco auto start systems/batteries and how much weight it would save. Can anyone help me out? =D


Also, can the trim part behind our cars be removed for more room? I think it's just decorations and has no actual functions, it'd be nice if it can be removed/exchanged to other materials to have a bit of room for recline/storage.


Anyone get aftermarket exhausts? The only one I know is Arden and I am looking for more options.

The power seats are probably the heaviest items that can easily be removed.

 

yes I agree the seats would be the easily removed but I kinda want to wait for jaguar to make some bucket seats or lightweight alternative on their RS or SVR models and just swap from there.

 

don't hold your breath for lightweight parts from Jaguar. Buy some racing seats to drop an easy 50+ lbs. Then lose the back half of the the exhaust if you have the active one. Then carbon brakes. Then simplify the windscreen washer system. After that some truly lightweight rims. Finally, if you have a convertible lose the power top for a custom manual top frame and a thinner, single layer of top canvas or just remove it and add a tonneau cover. Lose the power windows for side curtains, or completely if going with a tonneau. All in all it should be several hundred pounds for several thousand dollars. Most of it would be invisible.

thanks for the suggestions, can you elaborate on how to simplify the windscreen washer system? The only thing I can think of is to drain out the fluids.

 

Nookie is on the right track. However, I won't be doing surgery on my daily driver. My preference would be for it to come that way OEM.

 

The stock system has a tank in the trunk, a pump to move fluid to a tank under hood, then two more pumps to get fluid onto the windshield and headlights.

It would appear simplicity is not a cornerstone of Jaguar design philosophy

 

Maybe Jag will go the Porsche route and charge more for less or Ferrari and charge way more for less weight.

 

It's all about perfect weight distribution. Mess with one of those pumps, or move the tank to the front and BAM you've really messed it all up. and don't think of removing the extra "eco battery" That balances the car from left to right...

 

I was thinking about losing some weight myself. Should I go for a 50/50 personal weight distribution?

 

I think on men 50/50 works well. for females however, a little extra on top isn't a bad thing, unless of course they add just a little to the back end too. Hmm, now that I think of it 50/50 works for women too...

Lol absolutely...the vacuum pumps and canisters are in the back too. I actually carry stuff in the trunk on purpose to balance it even better. Spare tire, torque wrench, 12v vacuum etc. Every little bit helps.

 

You got the spare tire option? Didn't you read the fine print that stated if you leave the spare in the trunk the weight balance will be completely upset. You have to now go and remove the center caps and valve stem covers from all four wheels to compensate!!!

 

It's ok, I filled the rear tires with helium to balance it out.
