What is a good deal on 2015 F-Type R Coupe at the moment?
As you would have guessed from a few of my other threads, I'm looking to oull the trigger on a 2015 F-Type R Coupe. I have a few offers at the moment each with its own upside and downside.
I was wondering what can be considered as a good deal at the moment given 2016 pricing is available and cars are due to be delivered in a months' time.
I have one offer for $100K after all discounts and rebates on a car with MSRP $106,225. This is an out of state car for me and I will spend another $1600 shipping cars back and forth as part of trade-in. The plus side is that the car is spec-ed just like I want.
For reference, a local offer I have is for $1K below invoice (translates to $99K) for a car that isnt spec-ed like I want it but can be for an additional $4K. Math tells me this is likely not a good offer and the inherent risk of altering the car and the fact that $4K will fetch me nothing when it comes to future sale / trade-in.
So the out of state offer is good enough in relative sense but is it good enough in absolute sense? Is there scope for more negotiations?

hey rav1up, nice! I would say there is absolute room for negotiation with each dealer especially on the 2015's. You could find some prices on truecar.com but I would expect the rates to be about the same you're getting right now. Depending on when you want to pull the trigger, the minute dealers start having 2016's on their lots you can expect Jaguar to release even more incentives for the 2014's and 2016's still on lots. Good luck and let us know which car you end up with!
Right now, 9% off MSRP is probably the best deal I've seen at this point according to reports here. If anything, since RWD Rs will no longer be available in the US, they may see an increase in demand. Significantly greater discounts on 2015s will not likely be seen until fall when there are many 2016s in stock.
Thus, you can probably do a little better.

it looks like you have a pretty good handle on whatever deals are available in the Puget Sound area. From what I've recently seen and heard, discounts of 6-7% on F-Type R's are doable right now. 9% is certainly more aggressive, and less likely around here.
Not sure about negotiating from a relative vs. absolute sense, but there's always something left on the table, rav1up. Just depends how much. Your subject line, "a good deal...of the moment," reminded me that some of my best deals were "of the moment" deals. I've been surprised and pleased more than once at a discount I didn't expect to get at the moment (dealer-to-dealer as well as in-stock deals).
Good luck. Nice to see a few more F-Types around here.

Up in the Washington State area you may have trouble getting a good deal, as none of the dealers seem to be set up as internet dealers. You may have to go as far south as northern California to get a decent deal which seem to be running at 8% for the 2015 R. If you are a AAA member, you can use the following service to get that no-haggle type of deal: https://aaamidatlantic.truecar.com/main.html Even if you aren't a member, I think you can get their discount coupon.
Agree, 9% is unlikely here. The best I received was 7.5% for the Bellevue car that I did not want.
They do have internet sales department but there arent as many dealers and there arent as many cars for sale here and hence relative demand is higher. I've seen at least 1 car get sold every few weeks (say 2-4 weeks) from Bellevue Dealer by following their inventory for 3-4 months now.
The one I am likely to settle for is from Utah and I am getting the car transported. Its 6% off MSRP + 1600 to ship both ways (Utah dealer is taking care of this). Given that I dont have the luxury of choice, I am content with this offer.

If you buy the car in CA but you live and are registering it in another State, then you do not pay any tax to CA. The tax is paid to the State the car is registered.
During my DD, I was told by more than one new car dealer that California law requires them (the dealers) to collect California sales tax regardless of the end-users residency. The ONLY exemption is if the new vehicle was trucked out of state on a common carrier, at which point, I would instead pay Washington State sales tax. IOW, if you buy it and drive it on CA roads, you pay CA tax.

Since you're in Los Angeles, you may know something I didn't at the time. But, for anyone thinking about purchasing a F-Type in California, here is what I found out when purchasing a new vehicle there.

Yeah the dealers are wrong and most likely filing their own taxes wrong (afaik). They have a specific form to fill out for their taxes for vehicles sold in State but heading out of State. It goes under the "Sales in interstate or foreign commerce" section. They aren't supposed to collect any tax. You may have to pay CA registration for temp tags if you are driving it in CA before getting it registered in your home state. If you ship it, then you shouldn't even have to pay that.
A lot of dealer salespeople don't know this until they're educated.
I was told 2 different things by 2 different dealers. One was willing to put a 1 day temp and let me drive away and the other insisted on delivery and collecting Nv. tax thru Nationwide DMV. Didn't cost me extra but Nationwide DMV is a scam as I had to still go and do all the work at DMV. And their numbers were wrong!
Right. They said they needed to know whether I preferred to register the vehicle in CA or in my home state, asking me if I planned to drive it home or transport it. I said, "Drive it, of course," to which they said I would have to register it in CA and pay CA tax. At least for that particular dealer, that was their story and they stuck to it. May not be the norm--I don't know. In any event, thanks for sharing.

The General Manager became involved as the deal started going south (pun not intended). As things progressed, I was so soured by the consigner's back and forth stalls as to whether he wanted to sell his car to me, I ended up leaving the deal at the door and buying elsewhere. (BTW, my input here is not to infer in any way that out-of-state purchases in CA or elsewhere don't work. Of course they do.)
Are you sure about that and assume you're talking just the V8s? That's the deepest discount I've ever heard claimed, even for left-over 14 models. If so, that's not a great sign with regard to sales.
I got about $22k off my 15R coupe back in March, but it was a complete steal then. I wouldn't be surprised if some dealers with a lot of 15 inventory are cutting deep discounts to move them.
And I thought I got a great deal when I purchased my 2015 V6S last October for $10,000 under MSRP. Yes ShaunPA, we know you got the best deal, at the time, anyone could possibly have gotten (helped, as you stated back when, having bought two cars at your dealer before). Amazing deal!!!
