b. 1954, I have staff for that.

If I can throw e-Types into the mix, I hit every bracket below 70. Toys for the ages.

Default Ageless

Got permission from the boss to get a toy. Was looking at Z06, and a few different Porsche"s. Made a selection and was ready to buy. Told my 23 year old about my choice - response - don't do it - F-Type R or SVR. I said Jag's blow - no way. Went to the dealership with Jr and was blown away. On the spot walk off with an R BRG - Camel. So the 23 year old was much smarter than the 57 year old dad. So go run the demographics on that decision. A 23 year old directing a 100k spend - and was right. BTW - both of us drive "Hollie" and we f'in love every mile. She's a blast. Shout out to Lance!!!!!

Now at 75, The F Type keeps me feeling young. No I don't have to fall in or crawl out. I've had a lot of practice getting in and out of sports cars. Last one was a Chrysler Crossfire and before that, two 1971 DeTomaso Panteras. I enjoyed all of them and have had at least 9 Mustangs. This is my first Jaguar and I can't believe I waited so long to buy one.

Welcome to the dark side, Bill. Nearing 75 myself, I'm ahead of you on Jaguars, the F is our 11th, each one a delightful story in its ownership. You'll never look back! I'm considering going to the JCNA international event in Santa Barbara next week, which would be my first. Anyone else on the forum going?

Default Older than dirt. but not feeling it.

Never had a desire for a Caddy or Buick or Vette. The F Type is the most complete car I have ever owned. It lacks a few extras, but I didn't order it bran new. It's a 2014 convertible and had only 9,000 on the clock when I bought it in October, 2017, so it was not even broken in. I have 14,000 miles on it now and just finished working on the paint to get that show car shine. I must say the painters at Jaguar are not real good at getting a quality paint job applied to a beautiful car. I did custom paint jobs for fun back in the 70's and 80's and won a lot of awards for my work. I finally have it to a 95% approval (for me). I've attached a few photos to show my ride. It is a Stratus Grey Premium model.

@bill borrello
The car looks great ! But also this colour looks like black in certain lighting, just like the green/blue.
Black is the biggest nightmare to keep looking clean. So what did you put on the car , soms kind
of ceramic coating or traditional wax ?

Must be amusing to see at your age that you are a 'junior member' ..

I fail to understand why JLR doesn't make these colours some shades lighter sothey don't all turn to black.

I had a discussion with a detailer who said that british cars have sloppy paintjobs. As my son has an autumn schoolbreak and we both are petrolheads, we went to visit some hypercar dealers.
It turns out that Porsche and Maserati have the same kind of 'cloudy' paint that looks a bit like coliflower under skimming light conditions. And Aston Martin has this and some modern Ferrari's too.
But mostly on base colours, not the metallic paints.

Default Age and paint

The biggest problem I have with the paint is the orange peel. That is something that should be able to be corrected even with robots. The latest wax that I applied is Meguiar's mew Ultimate Liquid Wax. It's a pure synthetic polymer and is easy to apply and take off. It can also be applied to all the matte black areas on the car and looks great. One draw back is that you will need to do any rock chip repair before applying the wax or the paint will bead up just like water. I have also done a lot of work with polishing compound on the car with still more to go. If you have to do any paint repair (rock chips) after the wax has been applied, then you will need to use a little wax and grease remover in that area. I find that the paint that the factory uses is very easily scratched. Not sure what brand of paint they are using, if it has a hardener added to it or not.

I am not a paint expert. I did once paint some parts of my Triumph Dolemite Sprint in brown with an airless spraygun, in 1980 on my first car.

So I know what you mean by 'orange peel'...

But to me it look coarser then this kind of problem ; like blobs of cotton pressed flat, giving somekind of 'sheep-cloud' appearance. But it aint a pretty sight. that's 4-sure..
