Default Why extra charge for Black Brake Calipers...

My 2017 BRG R convertible comes with a $500 extra cost option for Black Brake Calipers. It's the exact same 380 mm fronts & 376 mm rears as the standard Red.
Personally I like the Red color better.
It already came as an option on the car on the dealer's lot. If I've ordered it, I would keep the orig red & wouldn't spend extra for black.
But does anyone knows why the option to change from standard no-cost Red to Black costs $500 extra?
Any better performance or just plain color difference?
Thanks,

Because they can? Surely there can be no performance difference whatsoever just based on color!

Funny - used to be black calipers were standard, red were an option. But that was in 2014, which is the year of this document...

As of 2017 it was an option. on IRR I liked black better than red since the two reds are very different

Because they have to go out of their way to make,, in lesser quantity, the black color.

Remember when Henry Ford said "you have whatever color you like as long as its black"
because its all about standardization, from manufacturing to stocking in inventory.

What Jaguar smartly did, (I do this in my product too) standardize the better color, thereby making your product line pretty and charge extra for the mundane. Its a win-win.

Just my bad timing.
Had a C5 Corvette before that the manual transmission was an upgrade from standard auto.
My last C7 Corvette I had an auto, which was an $1800 upgrade from standard manual...

and on the C7 Z06, the auto transmission gets hit with a $1300 Gas Guzzler tax and none with at 7 speed manual. Go figure!

Its because they can.

On the 'R' the red calipers are standard, and the black calipers are $500 more. On the V6 'S' (or whatever they call it now) with the same brakes, the black calipers are standard and the red calipers are $500 more. So clearly, the calipers themselves have nothing to do with it...
