Default Windshield washer fluid reservoir capacity

Does anyone know what the capacity of the big tank behind the rear bumper and the small one in the passenger front fender-well is? I’ve looked and can’t seem to find the answer.

Per page 205 of my MY2015 Owner's Manual the capacity of the big tank is 5.5 litres or 9.7 pints.
There is no mention of the small tank in the fender well.
There is a fair bit of info about the washer system in the Workshop Manual, but it says nothing about the capacity of the front tank (presumably because it is fed from the rear tank), the nearest it gets is this:

"The low level sensors have a float, with integral magnet. Each
sensors has a contact, which is normally open when the reservoir is
full. When the fluid level reduces to approximately 1 liter, the
magnetic float pivots down, which causes the switch contact to close.
This closed circuit is sensed by the rear washer fluid reservoir
transfer pump, the transfer pump will transfer the washer fluid until
the front washer fluid reservoir level sensor sends a signal confirming
front washer fluid level is full."

Yea I have the manual. 5.5 liters does not seem right at all. Even from empty, you can’t put 5L in there. I don’t think it makes a difference but I have a 16 R.

I have put 5 litres in mine.
Maybe that stated capacity includes the front tank as well?

So you ran the system dry until no fluid comes out of the nozzle, and then put 5liters in it?
if that is indeed the case, I need to pull the rear bumper cover off to see how big the main rear one is.

I think you may be right, it’d be great to know what portion of that is the rear tank.

I wasn't even aware there was an additional tank in the front... The big tank presumably did end up in the rear for weight distribution, but one would wonder the why of such an apparently "complex" system with two tanks. I.e. why not just the one tank in the rear?

So that you don't need to wait 30 seconds for your jets to work, while the fluid travels 15 feet from the rear bumper?

Naahhh, can't be that, as SUVs and wagons have front tanks and rear washers, usually incorporating check valves. A check valve would be lighter than the extra tank...but the front tank may not be large enough for some jurisdictions (Canada) that mandate a certain capacity.

I haven't looked, is the pump in the front?

I didn’t realize there is one in front (haven’t opened hood yet), but here is what the rear one looks like when bumper removed...

The first pic shows a pump on the left side, I think. (The white, round thingie.)

The front one is behind the right wheel well. Don’t think it’s visible from the engine compartment.

Both tanks have pumps.
The rear tank has a pump to move fluid to the front tank and the front tank has two pumps, one for the windscreen washers and one for the headlight washers.

the one in the front is behind the passenger side fender. You won’t be able to see it unless you remove the tire and fender liner. I’m repurposing the reservoir, I live in California and don’t really need windshield washers. The front tank is fed by a fluid transfer pump by the rear reservoir. The washer pumps for the windshield and headlights are fed by the front reservoir. The stupid part is that the line feeding the front reservoir from the rear runs inside the wiring harness...

So basically I need to know the capacity of each reservoir, if the front reservoir is smaller than a liter I may just skip it for my project.
