2017 F-Type R Coupe
The OM states that battery must be removed for charging. Is this for venting gasses? Is it ok to connect a battery tender to the lugs under the hood? Should a window be cracked for storage when a battery tender is hooked up?

I simply disconnect battery terminals and leave the battery in the car without charger. Zero issues starting in the spring after 4+ mo of winter. Zero issues so far with battery management system that sometimes requires resetting after using chargers. However, the car is kept in climate controlled storage for the winter.

Actually the car will stay in the northeast for the "winter". The question is for anyone who has used the under hood terminals to maintain the battery or would it be better to rig the in-trunk wiring as described in other threads.

 

in trunk wiring is better IMO. sealed AGM batteries don't need ventilation. I keep mine on a maintenance charger always......even in the summer when parked for more than a few hours.

I have used the under hood terminals two seasons now with a battery tender to keep the battery charged over the winter. Works fine.

 

The recommendation to remove the battery for charging is because of the difference between a charger and a tender.

The same debate has come up on several of our model forums over the years. The conclusion accepted by the majority has been to use the lugs in the engine compartment ONLY for emergency power connection to open doors/luggage compartment in a flat battery situation.

Jaguar recommendation for battery tender connection on vehicles with the Battery Monitoring System is NOT direct to the battery. Here is the relevant connections extract from the Battery Charging Kit fitting instructions:



It's the same setup as my XK. I use the Jaguar connection kit for CTEK and leave the vehicle locked and alarmed when on the tender for lengthy periods as this puts the vehicle in 'sleep' mode with minimum power consumption. Although this is the preferred option, actual choice will depend on your storage environment.
