Default Is it worth it to upgrade the Meridian audio system?

Lol so I took a pretty women for a ride in my car and she loved everything about it but asked basically what was wrong with the audio, it was at that point I realized her GMC S.U.V. had a more tollerable sound system then my car. I have looked through the forums and at some youtube videos on how to upgrade the system and seen that it's possible.

Basically I am curious if any of you have upgraded your audio and if so how much did it cost, and are you glad you did it? I really would like a better sound system but I don't know if I could stomach spending more than $3,000 maybe $4,000 if I could get something truly epic that made me feal like I was sitting in a theatre or something hahahahahaha.

Also do you guys think an audio upgrade would void any warranties? I know the audio wouldnt be covered anymore but would it maybe void other electronic components also?

That's presumably because the GMC didn't have the same gorgeous soundtrack that the Jag has? I never turn the audio on when I have a pretty woman in my F-Type ...

I don’t personally think that it’s worth the upgrade. While the Meridian is not good, I’ve heard worse. Also for the convertible audio is harder than the coupe and quite frankly the car itself is the best audio. A big problem with the Meridian are the speakers, they are just not high quality and tend to vibrate despite the proposed fixes. Replacing those might help a little but the cost of replacing the entire system is likely not worth ROI on a 2014 Ftype to begin with, Once the top is down the sound system quality gets drowned out by road and wind noise anyway.

We that’s my view for what it’s worth.

I have the upgraded 770Watt Meridian in my F-Type R and it's actually pretty decent certainly not as good as some of my previous M cars, or Harmon Kardon systems in former or current vehicles, but it definitely doesn't suck.. I'd be hesitant to go messing with a factory system in an F-Type regardless unless you just don't care, have money to burn and REALLY trust your audio installer.. Lol..

Lol when you said REALLY trust your audio installer I just got an image of the dudes at Car toys smoking weed behind the dumpster and saying "okay let's go finish this guys car." So yeah I have no designated guy or great place to get this system installed.

I agree the system is not all bad. But the Harmon in my '12 Merc was better and the Harmon in our '17 Maser is really good.

From what I've read, the settings can make a big difference, maybe some folks on here with that system can offer suggestions?

I reckon my 770W system sounds great, but that is very subjective coz all I have to compare it to are the base system I had in the XFS and 440W Bowers and Wilkins system I had in the XFR.
I leave it on Meridian surround sound all the time and I have all the settings smack in the middle except for the sub which I have dialled back a notch as even in the middle the sub is a bit too doof doof for my liking!
It's at least as good if not a bit better that the B+W was, and that's in a coupe vs a four door sedan.

I would agree 100%. The system in my 2004 xj8 was far better sounding. Even to change speakers requires way to much tear down of the car for my liking.
I just adjust it to my liking and its background when the wife and I are out for a ride anyway. It is a drawback of these cars if you put alot of stock into agood sound system.

After the software upgrade, the 770 system is about as good as the Bose system in my ‘84 Vette was. Gudenov

I am not a huge fan of 770 system in my car, but I hardly ever use it so it isn't a big deal. It is 'modern' loud, but actual quality of sound is comparable to a classic car.

At least it doesn't rattle on my car, as some people were reporting.

I have the 770. As someone who recently spent $700 on a carplay interface, I can be described as someone who *cares* about the system in my car.

If you're talking about upgrading to the factory Meridian 770 system, I wouldn't bother, unless you're getting parts for cheap/free and want a project (i.e., your time can be considered free). It's at best a decent to good system. Not great.

If you're talking about non-factory upgrades, I suspect you'll be putting a *lot* of money into it to get a "good" system, and there are much more interesting things to put that money towards.

There are several threads on here that report significant improvements by upgrading the door speakers with the premium Land Rover speakers and installing sound deadening ( dynamat or similar).
This is on my long list of upgrades.

+1
The 770 watt Meridian Surround sounds good to me, especially from high resolution sources such as CD.

yes do a search for the meridian signature speaker swap out

it's not a lot of money and most feedback is it's worth the effort

i got all my speakers and just waiting for a free weekend to tackle the project

I’ve noticed on my system some songs sound excellent but most sound like crap with a tinny bass rattle at normal volumes. And of the songs that sound like crap, sometimes the sound quality actually improves by turning up the volume.

I did a quick frequency scan with a phone app and there seems to be a funkified resonance at around 80 HZ. I tried a couple songs where I had sucked out the 80 HZ band but it didn’t seem to help much. Perhaps a more diligent execution of this idea might yield better results.

I’m reasonably convinced the actual hardware is fine and the main problem is in the EQ profiles loaded into the processor/ amps.

Oh mighty Unhingd, could you share detail on the software upgrade you had done? Where and when done? Description, bulletin or software version used for it, etc.

The software update was a fix for the tweeter channels getting unwanted frequencies. Supposedly early 'verts had a problem along those lines. I had mine updated for giggles but it didn’t change the tune of the system much.

The problem with the F Type’s sound is the F Type. Or maybe Meridians’ tune for the F Type. The sound in my other Jags is perfectly acceptable. The F Type is just awful. But, to make a significant difference you need to be able to change the tune and the subwoofer assembly at the minimum.
