Default Yesterday's cars & coffee... XJ220 pics

I went to our local cars & coffee yesterday morning. Being in downtown Chicago, it always brings out a diverse collection of vehicles.

Here's one I thought the group would be interested in...

Yuck . . . I always hated that design and was never surprised that it was an abysmal failure.

Thanks for sharing. I actually like it but think it would look MUCH better with an aftermarket set of wheels. The stock wheels make it look dated.

LOL - This isn't the type of vehicle you change appearance on - this vehicle is EXTREMELY rare and worth HUGE $

While I personally don't find it to be attractive, the fact that it is so rare, made snapping a few pics worthwhile.

LOL, wheels are EASILY changed back Joz132. People change wheels out on rare and special vehicles all the time. Again easily swapped back and still IMO would greatly improve the appearance of a XJ220

The car does look dated, but you can see how it can be modernized:

Well I think nixing the V12 in favor of the 6-cylinder may have had something to do with that...especially to the customers who had deposits.

Two totally different cars. The XK220 is an XK derivative and the second is a Callum design. No wonder it looks so much better.

Modernized as in building a new one? Thats the CX75 prototype.

Yes, that's like saying you can modernize the XJ220 by putting an entirely new body on it. The CX75 prototype is drop-dead gorgeous.

Yes, I am aware that the photo I posted is of a different car! My point is the 220 looks outdated because, well, it's a 30 year old car!!! but you can see how its overall design has been modernized with the 75.

The problem with that design is not that it is "dated." It was ugly when it was new, and it's equally ugly today.

That's where we agree to disagree. In 1992 I think this looked very cool.

I agree shift and again with a different set of wheels it really changes the whole appearance of the car.

Agreed. In the 1990s it was one of the nicest cars out, and it's still nice today. Don't forget this car came out in the era of the Countach and the Testarrosa which came with pretty ugly 16" rims too.
