2012 XKR Gear Selector Operation/CAN

Hoping to get some help 'reverse engineer' an XKR rotary gear selector module. I am hoping to use this in an EV conversion project and wondering if someone here can help with the CAN messages to activate/communicate with the module.
There are 18 wires, five for the parking brake actuation, battery +/-, ignition B, wakeup, CAN, etc. Does anyone know the what wires/conditions are needed to wake up the unit and to make it think it's still in the car?
I expect it needs to see a CAN signal after ignition on, is there any database of CAN messages that could help?
