Default 5.0 oil cooler failure

Doesn’t appear to me any instances of oil cooler failures on the 5.0v8 that are noted on the web, I believe mine has gone, quickly filling the cooling system with oil, lost quite a lot of oil as the system did not alert me to any issues, only noticed when we pulled over for toilet break, engine is still running sweetly so have averted terminal damage, just!
the coolers are available as aftermarket items so I assume they do fail at least occasionally? Anyone had any experience with this? Particularly on the 5.0.

I ended up buying an oil cooler because it came with a gasket (only way I could find a gasket). Of note, these are known for developing coolant leaks and are a bugger to get resealed. So, keep that in mind. The cooler is located under the supercharger (if your car is equipped with one). This would also be a good time to upgrade the coolant lines to the upgraded metal ones as you are going to have exposure to all of them. If you have the NA 5.0 V8, getting to the oil cooler is not too bad, but you do have to remove the intake. If you have a supercharger, you remove the supercharger to get to the intake, to then get to the cooler. I removed my intake with the motor still in the car. I do not recall needing anything special. Just be careful with all the plastic coolant piping as it will crack on you in a heartbeat if it is fairly old.

If you need more info, let me know. I got my oil cooler through e-bay. BUt ,a lot of recyclers should have one available.

I have the naturally aspirated version, it looks like they have a poor sealing method, I see three ports plus the pipe coming out, which ports are the oil? If the oil and coolant ports are close together the transfer could easily occur due to failed gasket

sweeper, if I remember correctly, the oil ports are on the bottom of the oil cooler along with the discharge of the coolant line. I would have to see if I still have my old oil cooler. Then I could tell you exactly what was going on. Let me look. But, I have a feeling that I threw it out a few months ago because "who would want this thing anyways?". Oops.
