Are All Jaguars and Daimler V12 "Double 6?"
I have been corrected for calling a Jaguar V12 a Double 6. I was told that the only Double 6 was a Damilar V12. Was I corrected properly?

Yes. You were correctly corrected. "Double Six" is for the Daimlers. "V12" is for the Jaguars.
I *think* the term "Double Six" goes wayyyy back with Daimler, from long before Jaguar bought the company.

Jaguar
Daimler. Yes you were corrected correctly. The firing order makes it sound more like a double six in my opinion though, plus it has a nice 'ring' to it!

Also Vanden Plas specification is only applied to Daimler models except in the USA where it is used on Jaguar.

I understand Jaguar cannot use the DAIMLER branding in the USA because the rights to the name are owned by Mercedes Benz. Very strange this is not the case in Europe where Mercedes Benz is based!

Is it used in Canada in conjunction with Jaguar or Daimler? I'm never sure whether the bar on using Daimler only applies to the USA or the whole North American market.

Sorry....still on my first cup of coffee! In Canada the Vanden Plas name is used on Jaguars.

Daimler made a sleeve-valve V12 between the Wars and used the name "Double Six". Jaguar bought Daimler in the 60s and therefore had the model names available to them, and used this name when they produced a Daimler version of the XJ12.
