Default CTEK Charger - Cigarette Lighter Adapter

Many of us use CTEK battery chargers to prevent a flat battery when our vehicles are stored.

Instead of using the crocodile clips, I have their 'Comfort Direct Connector' wired to the battery and the charger connects to this at the yellow/orange plug and socket.

I was looking for another of these Connectors and found CTEK now offer a Cigarette Lighter Connector Adapter.

Much more convenient than the original 'Comfort Direct Connector' and only one is needed to move the charger between vehicles.

I looked into them a while back, and agree with the principle.

Only issue I had with some of my Jags, was the lighter socket was only active with ACC, on (S Type), or in the case of the X300 IGN on is the only time its active.

I maintain the "S" via the spare terminals that are +ve live in the engine bay fuse box, as the bonnet open still allows this car to actually go to sleep after 43 minutes.

The X300 is via the +ve post alongside the RH engine bay fuse block.

The others just stay connected 24/7, as they are rarely used.

OK, I did a bulk buy of chargers a looong time ago, $20 each, for 7 units.

It does get messy, and now confusing at times, but I manage, just.

I added one of these 'marine' power sockets in the Luggage Compartment and another in the Centre Console:

They are wired in permanently live. The main reason I added them was standard cigarette lighter sockets don't lock and can easily pop out. These ones twist to lock so the plug can't pop out accidentally.

Sweet.

The "minister for everything" just saw that, and now it is on TOP of the to do list for 5 of the cars.

THANKS Graham.

I just purchased a 2012 CPO XF and contacted CTEK directly about which charger they recommended and how to connect it to trunk battery. They advised me to connect to cigarette lighter with adapter. Does anyone know if the cigarette lighter stays active when car is turned off? Thank much.

NO, it doesn't.

I have mine wired to direct the battery using a CTEK adaptor.

Which Ctek charger is most compatable with a 2010 XK? There are number of models to choose from. It's basically for a car I would use once a week or less.

I must have seen posts across our various tech forums from members using just about every CTEK model available and none reporting any issues.

If you the avoid the smallest US 0.8 (Part No. 56-865), you should be safe to go with any of the ones listed that suits your budget.

The range available in the US has slightly different brand numbering from the UK but the MULTI US 3300 (Part No. 56-158) is a later version of the CTEK 3100 I've been using for a few years on a number of vehicles.
