Default Repairs/Maint documenting them using Excel

I have been documenting the repairs and maintenance on all of our vehicles for the last 15 years.
It is helpful to be able to open the excel spreadsheet and use the edit/find to locate the last time a particular type of job was done on the vehicle.

Its details the date, the mileage when it was done, the description of the item (Parts, Labor, misc), the prices paid for the components of the job and the total price of the job.

In the title section, the date the vehicle was purchased, the date when it was new and put in service, and then the grand total dollars spent since we purchased the vehicle.
Here is a pdf file of Excel spreadsheet:
2001 Jaguar XJ8 sp.pdf

Hope this helps you maintain your Jaguar.

That's great documentation.

Personally, I am not that disciplined to keep records like that. I'm lucky if I have the big stuff in the glove box. Everything else is categorized in quicken as auto maintenance so I can get the total, but not a description of the activity. The vendor may shed a light on what happened, but the little stuff like your entry for fuses may just slip through the cracks.

The description helps a lot. Many times I do a review on what it costs us the last time for a particular part and the labor to complete the repair. Labor rates change but you still can get a good idea of the hours it took to do the job. Also the entry for the fuses reminds me that I might still have of the assortment of fuses around somewhere here in the house.

I do the same thing, but just in a Word document with column format.

Does using columns in MS Word sum up any of the indiviual costs giving a subtotal or grand total? I have not used the columns feature in word, but I would like to try it.
