Default Does this VCM IDS on eBay look legit?

I'm looking for Jaguar diagnostic tools for our X308 and X350. I ran across this on eBay: VCM IDS diagnostic Tool for Ford Jaguar Mazda and Landrover | eBay

In correspondence with the seller he says it will work for all Jaguars up to 2011, and that there is no subscription and no user/password. I thought it had to be one or the other.

Would anyone with experience with these things let me know if this item looks legit?

It looks like a legit chinese copy, but for this price you coud get a legit Mongoose one, just leaves the software.

+1 for that money Mongoose is the way to go.

FYI the genuine VCM's have different coloured labels. Red for Ford/Mazda, Blue for JLR.
You need to re-flash the VCM depending on which brand you want to talk to.

I would be very wary of this offer. Not legit enough for my taste....

Thanks guys, you share my suspicions. The price makes it seem like it should be genuine Ford. As you said, it compares with the Mongoose JLR. Also thanks for the FYI on the labels, I had no way of identifying the real deal.

I see Jag IDS units with a computer going for quite a bit, but I could supply my own Windows XP laptop, and so was hoping to save by just finding a used VCM and IDS software. The Mongoose ($600) plus software ($???) is out of my range. Shouldn't I be able to find a used setup for less than $500, or am I dreaming?

There are clone Mongoose's available now, I think.

JLR Mongoose,Mongoose for Jaguar & Land Rover,JLR online store,technology support,supplier,price,update,review,software,manu al--AutoTool-Mall

Software is another matter. As I mentioned in other threads, there is (was?) a guy on ebay selling V127 with a username & password.

BTW that is a cheap price for a VCM, clone or otherwise. Not too long ago you couldn't get one for under $1500

Is that this guy: Jaguar Land Rover Range JLR IDS DVD 127 + UPDATES + SPA - Diagnostic Software | eBay ? I guess I could buy the software and wait around for a deal on a VCM, Mongoose or otherwise.

Does anyone know if the Mongoose JLR will work with x308 cars? The drewtech.com website doesn't list it, and I'm waiting to hear from them.

Also, I found this: Drew Tech Mongoose Jaguar / Land Rover Interface Probably another clone, but the site has an A+ BBB rating and is US-based. Anyone heard of them?

I'd still prefer to find a standard Jaguar VCM.

From what I have gathered the VCM will not be support some time in the near future. BTW that link above doesn't seem to work.
