Door lock not working on 1 door

Door lock not working on 1 door
Have a 2002 jaguar vanden plans XJ8. Rear door lock (on driver side) started working intermittently. Doorlock eventually completely stopped working. Any suggestions on why one doorlock would suddenly fail to operate.
