Question Front Rotor Set Screw

I am putting new rotors, calipers and pads on all 4 wheels on my 88 XJ6 Base. The right front hub does not have a hole for the set screw. Is this normal, and if so, why. If it is not, what do I do?

All help will be greatly appreciated. Amateur trying to restore.

Phil

Had that a few times over the years. Some not drilled, never worked out why, some butchered, some sheared off.

I would worry not, rotor on, wheel on, tighten the nuts, everything is happy.

None of mine had any issues without that set screw, stopped fine, no noises, no vibrations/shudder, and I really never worked out why it was there in the first place.

If it really worries you, drill and tap the hub to suit.

Thanks Grant. I appreciate the rapid response and relief.

I always leave them off or try to.

ever since that day I beat the bejesus out of a rotor thinking it was rusted on but it really had a cleverly disguised allen headed screw that i failed to see until about 40 minute of sledgehammering

Mate, coupla a beers, and that screw would have been noticed. HA.

You are not alone, I cracked a rotor way back, from smacking it, before I noticed that sucker.

OE Jaguar brake discs had a countersunk drilling for the setscrew - many aftermarket equivalent replacements do not.

The setscrew arguably makes assembly a little easier but most do not bother to refit it if it was difficult to remove or damaged. As Grant says, after assembly, the wheel holds everything in place regardless.

Yup same as on the Impala rotor i sledged. one rotor came right off bc some prior mechanic didnt put the screw in on one side- the side I did first So when i got to the passenger side i didnt expectg there to be a screw and it was countersunk and covered with black brake dust so the allen head looked like a small hole. it was only after an wxtended period of cussing that I finally saw it. ya my kid thought I had lost my mind
