OH boy, British Non-Metallic, good luck.

They are a MONGREL at best.

I would get some p/pack carby cleaner or Brakeclean, and clean all that gunge off first, then soak it in WD40, or similar, then keep at it. The blade is the only way I know of. Pulling on the wires will break them.

I have been known to cut that nonsense out, frustration does that, and fit a "normal" loom connector, that has a simple tab to push to seperate the 2 halves. Down here we have Narva as a connector etc supplier, and readily available near everywhere.

Clean it up first so you can see what you're doing. One of the few things that WD40 actually will do.

It's a very long time since I had a 'series' XJ6 and the memory dims but is there a securing screw in one end of this pattern connector?

Members with more recent experience will either nod in agreement or call me a muppet depending on how good my memory is!

Nope.

Brute force, dumb luck, much foul language, blood letting (when the blade sips), and finally cutting the wires and starting over.

Something I dont miss, trust me.

They come apart by wiggling and twisting.

I'll often use pliers on each half of the connector to increase the oomph of my wiggling and twisting.

Mind you, you're not trying to squish the bejesus out of the poor things. Use just enough pressure with the pliers to grip the plastic and then twist a bit. They'll come right apart. It's all in the wrists

Works every time!

Cheers
