IDS, SDD the naked truth

If the OBD connector has no power it could just be a fuse or two, when you were replacing the pipes did you disconnect the battery because even with the car switched off many modules are up and running and there is still power in the engine bay. If you got water on any of the circuits that may have been live a fuse or two could have blown. Which version XF is it 1st or facelift I can then share a link to the wiring diagram which may help trace the problem.

On IDScentral was a file called "JLR PanasonicScript-Setup Vxx" available. Current versions are only for Windows 7 and 10. V17, which is the oldest version I have is also only for Windows 7. Does anyone have the old setup files for the IDS Panasonic CF-18 Toughbook? I would need the last Windows XP compatible "Panasonic Setup Script". I'm looking not for the IDS/SSD software but for the configuration setup used for the Windows XP CF-18.

I'm currently stuck with an IDS installation on real Windows XP (no virtual machine). As often as I try the installations run fine and IDS starts without any error message. But as soon as I enter a VIN the following screen says the VIN is invalid. This message is shown for each input. Independent if the VIN is correct or complete nonsense. I think there is a file path error somewhere? Has anyone had this problem before?

I tried several VINs from X300 and X308. The CD the installation came from is ok, as it worked in a virtual machine. It must be some linking to the IDS database directory or something similar.
Maybe a path entry in an ini file or the in registry.

You need SDD for any car from 2008, a full installation of SDD is supposed to switch back to IDS if necessary, to tarokyama I would only update modules if you are experiencing any problems you could always be causing problems by updating them all they may add new bugs and fix ones you never had.

IDS/SDD direct run IDS
Does anyone have a VM IDS/SDD version 138 or even 154 that can open IDS directly without having to rely on SDD reverting to IDS from the VIN?
I have both a 2005 and a 2000, so I need IDS for the 2000 X308 and would also like to run IDS on my 2005 X350 Neither my 131 or 138 versions will revert to IDS, only my 125 version will revert from the VIN or allow me run IDS directly.
My 125 version keeps updating from the system clock which the workaround is to first change the system clock which creates other system update issues, where my 130 and 138 version do not when running the VM after running the time set batch.
Thanks!

Glenn, go into your program files on your laptop and look for IDS folder (might be under Jaguar or SDD program file folder). Inside the folder you should see IDS.exe. You can save a copy of it to your desktop or just launch from there.
Disable SoftwareManager to prevent updating:
C:/Program Files/JLR/IDS/Runtime the file is SoftwareManager
End the SoftwareManager process with Task Manager (Alt-Ctrl-Del)
And then rename the SoftwareManager to something else (put a 2 on the end)
This will prevent the SoftwareManager from starting in future.
You will still want to backdate your laptop calendar date when you start as well. I think I use 4/1/2011.

Real Tech,
I very much appreciate this writeup, your creative writing style, and your good sense of humor. And, I can relate to most of it as about a million years ago I was a Chevy mechanic. We were called mechanics then as the name tech wasn't used yet, and we actually never really needed a VOM in the shop (DVOMs weren't invented yet). The bulb was either burned out or it wasn't. If the bulb was good, a test light found the bad wire, which you could easily see the entire run. But, all of the shop terms and labels you use applied back then, including the shop rates, gravy jobs, $hit work, etc.
Very interesting that as much as things change, they also stay the same.
It is a pleasure knowing you on the internet and you're a valuable asset to all of us.

Some good info here.
I needed sdd v130 or 131 for my 2005 XJR, which I no longer need, but a later version 159 I think for my 2013 Range Rover.
The most significant work on the XJR was reflashing the TCM also recalibrating the suspension and on the Rover reprogramming a new parking brake.
I have a dedicated laptop with two seperate HDDs each with a different version of SDD. Laptop cost about $50 and is 2.5 Ghz and maxed out with memory so its plenty fast enough.
I used "Freeze" to keep the date set appropriately and the laptop never has access to the Internet.
Of the complete set up the battery maintainer was the most expensive item. I even picked up a genuine Mongoose cable on sale. My first clone cable gave up the ghost after a year.

Here is a big thread on SDD with some images of the software for download that might help with the installation. It's long at 19+ pages on the UK Jaguar forum.
JAGUAR IDS/SDD VIRTUAL IMAGES for 125/130/128 (Easy Install)
They have recently added image files for version 160.

A little help with IE8 please
I have just acquired a Dell 830 with Windows XP Pro 32 bit and after several tries, I finally got SDD version 131.6 loaded.
Laptop is back dated to 4/2012. When I launch SDD however, I get a message, no internet connection.
I can get google to pop up (obviously with certificate errors due to the date set on the laptop so I have internet.. I can't go to topix itself, but is there a setting I'm missing in IE 8, at least I think it's 8, properties doesn't disclose the version.
I'm trying to logon to authenticate with a cracked login but can't get to that screen to see if the login will even work. It just tells me cannot connect to the internet. Any help here please?

One added tip?
I use CCleaner to clean the laptop up. In that program they have a startup screen and I just set the SDD software manager to not run. That way everything is still there and it's simple to turn back on if needed.
Ccleaner Install
I finally stopped my SDD from updating this way and I am at V160.XXX. Everything still working fine and I am always connected to the internet and using the current date.
