Default Leaping Jaguar hood ornament broken

Hello, I just picked up my 2003 S Type from my repair shop and found my leaping jaguar hood ornament sitting inside my car ,in one of the cup holders. The base of the ornament is still intact on the hood. The jaguar piece itself still has a hairpin piece of the thin cable running through the bottom hole, kind of like a “hairpin” shape. The ends of the cable are frayed, as if it had been twisted off.
when I picked up the car I didn’t notice because the mechanics wife had started the car up for me and had stared running the AC to cool the car for me. It wasn’t til the first stop light that I noticed the ornament wasn’t on the hood. The shop was closing, so I couldn’t go back.
Do I call the mechanic ( they’re closed for the weekend) or do I try to fix it myself? What kind of cable do I need? I’m a gal with small hands but the cable seems thin enough for me to twist and crimp into place. Shouldn’t my mechanic have told me about it?

Yes, the repair shop should have told you about the broken mascot. I would go back next week and ask what happened. Don't try to fix it yourself.
