Default Looking for General Advice on Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

I changed my plugs a few months ago and there was some, not much, oil on the threads of all the plugs, not much but some. I didn't see any pooling inside where the plug goes, so I didn't get too worried.

I've heard that a little oil isn't unheard of and shouldn't cause any panic, but I was wondering what everyone's advice is about this.

I have a good mechanic who will do the work for me (or I could do it myself), buying the gaskets and plug seals isn't an issue, I'm just curious as to what amount of oil would raise a concern for you. Any oil?

Thanks.

BTW As you can see in my signature - I have an 03 XJ8 and it runs beautifully.

It is certainly no emergency, but it should be addressed. Enough oil in the wells will eventually cause misfiring. Leaking seals generally get worse as time goes on.

Thanks, I was thinking along those lines. Not smart to just ignore it.
