Default Need Help Identifying an Engine

Jaguar Engine - Imgur
My grandfather's friend was given an engine by a local Auto Shop class he volunteered in. It's been over a year since he volunteered and he can't get in touch with the person who gave him the engine. My grandpa's friend is a big gear-head when it comes to American cars but he doesn't know much about British/European cars. Obviously it's a 6-cylinder so my best guess is an XJ-6 or XK-6 somewhere in the range of mid 90s to early 2000s. If anyone knows what kind of engine this is and what year/model car it goes to I would really appreciate the info. Thanks!

That is an AJ16 engine.

Used in the XJ variations from late '94 to late '96, depending on markets. The most common car was the XJ6 known as the X300. It did find its way into the last run of the XJ-S models also.

Being a USA spec engine, i would suggest a 4ltr.

Hope that helps a tad.

Welcome to the forum jag_engine,

Greg's given you all the info on the engine.

If you're curious to see the model it fits, here's a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 otherwise known as the X300:

It may not have ever been run. It was donated to the Auto Shop for students to work on but according to my grandfather's friend, no one ever turned a wrench on it. We unscrewed the oil filter and there is oil in it. That could indicate that it was run at one point but it almost certainly doesn't have much running time on it at all.
