Default Timing Tools for 4.0 Litre V8

I recently purchased the tools necessary to correctly set the timing on the 4.0 Litre V8 and would be happy to lend them to members of this forum with at least one hundred (100) postings for the cost of shipping and insurance. The tools will be available by the end of February 2012 as I need to use them first on a vehicle I recently acquired that the previous owner's technician incorrectly set up the timing chains on.

In consideration of other members, the tools will need to be returned within thirty-five (35) days, freight prepaid. In other words, please don't make me have to chase you for the tools as I don't want to end up having to charge a deposit (ransom??)!

You might want to consider taking a deposit of the full cost of the tools anyways.

The first time they don't come back is the last time they'll be available. And then, it is too late to start taking a deposit.

Two possible mechanisms are paypal and echecks.

Very generous offer but I agree with Plums on the deposit. Not getting them back or receiving them broken would disappoint you and all the other users to follow.

I belonged to another forum that had a set of loaner tools and they were well used.

While I appreciate your concern, please understand that I'm offering these tools as a means to assist members of this forum. If I am to charge deposits and create an administrative structure for doing that, perhaps it's just not a very good idea to begin with.

NBcat, your offer and generosity are very much appreciated by all here I assure you.

I think where Plums and Test Point are coming from does make sense. In all likelihood it would never be a problem, certainly with the bulk of the long standing members here I'd say, but, many many unforseen things do crop up and it would be a good "insurance" policy.........one that probably most would want to put in place.

I agree with the comments NBcat. Whilst a great offer, you really should build in some personal insurance.

Don't know how the Cheque system works over there, but if you ask the person to send you a cheque for the full value together with a Stamped addressed envelope. Then the only admin you have to do is to drop an envelope into the post once the tools are returned to you within your time constraints.

Naturally you can't stipulate condition restraints, but would hope that folk would be honourable.

Thank you for all your comments; I will take them into consideration when the time comes to actually lend the tools out. I would certainly hope that there is a sense of honour with being trusted with the tools, but we shall certainly see.

I must probably also write a 'disclaimer' to go along so the tools are not blamed for the incompetence of the user when something goes wrong.

Hello NBCat, I tried messaging you but was not able to view your profile, probably because I have 0 posts and am a new member.

I have a Lincoln LS that's been non-op since late Sept., due to a failed tensioner. I've been looking around for timing tools since, but being a college student, I'm always looking for the best deal, yours seems the fairest, and is also the closest. The folks at the LincolnvsCadillac forums say the Jaguar tools for this job are apparently the same for the Lincoln LS, part numbers and everything. I don't have the 100 posts you require to lend them, but would I be able to rent them with some sort of deposit? If so, for how much, and how long?
