Hi,
I've got a 2000 XK convertible, and am think of replacing the shocks. Dumb question........does the XK8 have shocks, struts, or both? I'm told to use only Bilstein shocks and struts, but you see Bilstein shocks on Ebay, Bilstein struts on Ebay, etc...I have the original shocks (and struts?), that I'm sure came new on the car. Do I replace just the shocks, the struts, both, or do they come as one unit? I'm confused. Don't want to buy the wrong stuff!

 

The front damper is item 3 in the illustration.

 

Why do the front and rear dampers need to be replaced? Are they leaking, or are the lower bush (item 5 above) or upper spring mount (item 7 above) worn?

 

No leaking I'm aware of . I'm sure the shocks/struts are original to the 2000 Jag XK8, which is 18 years old, with around 72k miles on them. Does my Jag have struts all around, struts in the front, and shocks in the rear, or all shocks. I'm really confused about what I have, and how I know it's time to change them out for new ones. Can you tell me what my type of Jag usually has, so I know what replacement parts to look for?
