Default Resetting the Service Indicator on X351 XJ?

I now have a complete working SDD V157.327. Reads my VIN (2014 XJR) perfectly and I can see ALL the history back to mile 0! Interesting to me is you can clear all the codes but they all stay with a green check mark next to them. Plus they are all listed by mileage and date. There are some REALLY strange codes in their too.

After many hours and several all day install/uninstall routines I settled on what I wanted to run. As anyone who tries it will find out there are a TON of SDD versions out there. I run a dedicated laptop Win7 64 bit and stay connected to the internet 100% of the time. Note also I don't need to screw with the date or run any Deep Freeze type software. Really very simple in the end.
You will read that SDD can't work like that but with a little work it does.

Everything works fine but looking for the oil service reset I seem to find 2 places with a resetting service indicator?

This one;

and this one;

The second one looks better because it mentions Oil but maybe reset both?

Did you buy a TOPIx subscription period or just install SDD 1.57 as the standard time-limited setup? It's some time since I did that kind of install but it used to be 7 days unlimited use. This restriction could have changed?

No Topix subscription and no time limitation.
That's been fixed and my dealer server icon is green all the time in SDD if I am connected to the the internet.
SDD was installed over 7 days ago. Is that the only time limitation?

It used to be 7 days after a fresh install before a TOPIx subscription was required. As I wrote earlier, it's been a long time since I did an install like this so restrictions could well have changed.

Thanks Graham. You got me looking for time limits.
After more digging I found mention of SDD working for a year or so fine connected to the Internet and then stopped.
Then had to do a full clean reinstall. Very time consuming.
So I may cut the Internet off. I do get a nag screen about the SDD update being ready to install once in a while. They download in the background if on the network.
Don't know if there is an option to turn that off or not?

I did not understand the versions either. With a 2014 I don't need to do any SDD updates as Jaguar long ago stopped doing anything with my car.
I am using V157 the updates add the newer cars and trucks currently in production.

I wish I could find a list of SDD versions and what models/years they contain.

In that case I think I'll give a current fresh install another go. It was a pain to do such a lengthy install proccess when it only ran "free" for a week but worth it if it's going to last up to a year.

The JLR assumption will be that dealers will always want regular updates and I would hope, given the cost of an annual subscription, that these do include continously improved diagnostic routines for earlier models as well as the newer additions.

It isn't necessary to do a full install with each version release. These always include a smaller update package to increment the previous version. Here's the comparative filesizes for the full v158 and the v157 to v158 update:

You should be able to go to v158 with the update file. The READ ME pdf with each release isn't any help as far as content or change is concerned. It only has the installation procedure except for a bit about the removal of the VDF files from the install package from v151 and having to download them from the server after that..

Thanks much Brutal!

Can you answer if Jaguar does update the older models service info when a newer version of SDD is released?
With my limited experience I did not see any difference between versions looking at my 2014 XJ.

I agree with Graham about improving older cars but have seen comments from a number of people stating that after a short period of time (Have not found what that time is?)
Jaguar stops all updates and only concentrates on the current model year of production.

they do not stop updates to only current model years, they do go back depending on what for, seldom though. BUT they do eliminate support and applications within SDD, meaning what we used to be able to do we can no longer. Like tasking out the ability to easily overwrite vin info in used modules. One of the techs here put a used trans with TCM from another car and it too him a day to get it corrected and start. A year or time when this stops??? Who knows, but we do keep a sdd with updates turned off to work on older late to early 2000 stuff just incase.

Good to know - what version of SDD allowed this? As our old cars get older I see this being very useful so appreciate any information you can provide.
