Default Question on reverting to an earlier version of SDD

I currently have and am using SDD 125_V5.
I have the Rotunda VCM and genuine OEM cables.

I was never able to get IDS 118.5 to run on my machine, and am frustrated that SDD engineering mode only works for later model years (so not mine).

I'm operating on an old Dell laptop, Windows 7 32 bit. Date is set @ 4/1/2011.

I uninstalled SDD 125 and gave another shot @ 118.5 and it worked - sort of.

Problem 1) I launched IDS and VCM connected to the laptop. I then turned on the ignition, entered the VIN and the response was disheartening. VIN not recognized.

I've read about this problem before and folks have said they got it working but never said how. Can anyone who has experience with IDS help?

Problem 2) I launch IDS via "softwaredownload.htm" in the runtime folder. The VIN entry screen comes up, I select the engineering mode option and IDS accepts the VIN.
I select the option to download the Current Configuration File, follow the instructions, then get the message that a software update is needed.

As I understand it, the system looks for a more recent version of IDS/SDD was used on the vehicle (which it has) and that triggers the message.

Can I get rid of that message by deleting all of the session files?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I think that your issue may be that the PC date is wrong so it wants to update the software. I went through a period of downloading every version of SDD released and v122 is from July 2010 so 4/1/2011 is far too late for v118.

I do have the installation media for 118 and the latest file on there is from early May 2009 so I would be inclined to try around then.

Thanks, u102768, much appreciated. I did try a few dates going back to the date the software was built. I know it's a matter of getting the date right. I have to delete the previous ious session files for that to work. The weird issue is that the software doesn't accept the VIN.

I'm back to using v125

Sean W,

I'm not quite sure your end game - I lack familiarity with the Rotunda VCM and genuine OEM cables.

However, I have SDD 149 running on a very old Thinkpad laptop with the latest Windows software (Win 10, I think the 32 bit version), using the Chinese clone Mongoose cable and software that came with the clone that automagically sets the date to the install date of SDD, so no worries about update. I think it might still say the SDD 149 is an eval copy good for one day. This SDD captures the VIN on my 2010 without an issue. I know lots of folks on this forum won't try the clone, but I have used this setup to read, not program, and have had no issues.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

WRAIR
