This is making me crazy...picks up the VIN, recognizes the car, when I go to enter any of the modes it goes to data collection...buzzes right through the first 98%. Then locks up. Any advice? The transponder key on this car is dead.

 

btw-Windows 7 machine...Was told that as long as it isn't a vista OS I am good.

 

I don't believe that Win 7 64-bit is supported.
Are you using a Mongoose, a mongooser, a VCM, WDS, or what type of hardware interface to the car?
The Mongoose and mongooser won't support an 89 XJS. I am not for certain about a VCM. I believe a WDS will.
Is SDD being used after the VIN is recognized, or is IDS? An 89 XJS makes me think IDS would be used.
If IDS even supported an 89.

Is the dead transponder the only one you have?
Transponders don't tend to go bad unless they are damaged.
Also, I thought that the transponder key could be programmed without any tool.

I'm working on the 05 xkr right now. It is the VCM and SDD. I'll do some research on the windows 7....you may have me pointed at the problem. Thanks

 

On the transponder key, the first stopped working about six months ago, and like a dummy I did not replace it. Now the other has taken a poo.

 

My system has now started locking up at 98% too...

I found that if you have previously connected to the car, you can re-open a previous session (sessions tab, top right corner of screen) which will skip over the general scan where it locks up & you can go straight to the select symptoms screen. Hope that helps...sorry for the late reply!
