Several errors on "my" Jaguar xj8, 2003.
Hello, I'm in need of help.
My father got a Jaguar XJ8, if I'm not mistaken it's a 2003 mod, left hand drive.
Ive tried to locate the same issue on the forums, but all the same show's different errors than ours.
We get up these errors:
Traction controll failure.
Restricted performance.
Also one more, ACD or someting close to that. It wont show for long.
We tried to check the fuses, nothing there.
Might think it got someting to do with the plugs?
Checked airfilter, noting there eather.
No lights pop up, no engine lights, just the error msg.
When this kicks in, the car starts running bad. Like it's shaking and having a hard time "breathing".
It wont accelerate properly, wont go over 25 mph.
Sometimes, it helps to take off the battery, but normaly we have to remove the wires 3-4 times, before it resets back to normal.
Sometimes, it also wont let us use the mirrors as we wish. If I try to take the right mirror down a bit, it will drop to the bottom and stay there. It wont let me find the perfect angle.
I hope someone can help us out.
I apologize for bad grammar and spellerrors. Hope it's readable
Best Regards June.

Hi June,
Before you get stuck into chasing your tail around, I would suggest that you remove the battery from the car and fully charge overnight, reconnect and then see what happens.
Don't forget the radio code if you disconnect the battery.
From there we need also to know if the car is throwing any codes.

The Traction Control and ASC fault is probably the ABS module (JLM21323) cracked solder joints.
You would need to get the ABS DTCs read for verification.
Restricted performance can be P0171/P0174 lean codes, Throttle issues, Brake pedal switch etc.
Again, you need to have the DTCs read for the Engine module.
Guessing will not be productive.

Hello again.
Sadly charging the battery alone, did not solve the problem.
So I will now try eather ABS or plugs.
Also got error "traction not avalible" Never had that before.
Any clues?

Is your car the aluminium saloon or the previous model ? The two are completely different. Without the fault codes it is very difficult to diagnose these things over the internet with any certainty.
If you have an X350, the traction not available message is normal after reconnecting the battery. There is an easy to perform initialization sequence you need to do. I don't recall the exact sequence, but I remember when I replaced my battery I got the error and I think I resolved by by driving a block or so, applying and releasing the electronic hand brake, and perhaps restarting the car. Someone else will likely have the more precise initialization sequence.

First off, welcome to the forum June,
To get relevant advice, you need to confirm which model XJ8.
Is it the steel body 1997-2003 model on the left or the aluminium body 2003-2009 model on the right?

To distinguish between these XJ8's, the early one is known as X308 and the later one as X351.
As has already been mentioned, without having the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) read, troubleshooting is just guessing.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention it's a steal, x308.
Ive been at the shop with it, and they give me that it's the third coil..
He said noting more than that. He guessed that changing the plugs should solve it, if not I should get a new coil.
Did not help me at all, but I will try it.
He did not give me the code errors.
So should I find a new shop or try the plugs first?
And thank you Graham

For the shop to say 'it's the third coil', they must have read the codes because each coil sets a different code. You either need them to give you the code(s), find another shop or get yourself a code reader.
The normal way to check for a coil fault is to switch the positions of the apparently faulty coil with any other and see if the code changes. I'd suggest doing this before considering changing the plugs.
