Can this particular remote be reprogrammed? ??
Reason only have 1 remote but was given this remote identical model to my own..

 

Yes ..... using dealer level diagnostics.

To add insult to injury they want $1100 dollars for a new remote. Highly offensive and objectionable...

 

The important word here is identical.

As with this and all earlier Jaguar models, the security system is both market specific (different operating frequencies of 315mhx and 433 mhz) and subject to updating throughout the model run.

The Parts Catalogue lists six different Smartkeys for the XF. They all look the same but have different internal components.

To allow reprogramming, you need one of the same frequency and from the same VIN range. This is what I understood you meant by describing it as identical.

Whoa, fellas! Lots of misinformation here.

Smart keys that match the picture in the original post are in no way like remotes in the general sense. One of those keys, even from the same model, year, etc., CANNOT be reused on another car UNLESS, they have been purposely and properly ERASED from the car they were first married to. They are highly secure keys and have to be handled exactly right, or they become scrap and can't be properly programmed to ANY car.

Think of it this way, out of the box the keys are 'defaulted', meaning they are not married to anything. They can then be programmed, or put on the instrument pack's 'imaginary key ring'. At that point, all is well. That key is then in a state that it CANNOT ever be programmed to another instrument pack unless it is properly erased from the original IP and thereby returned to 'default'. Any of those keys that are lost, replaced [meaning new one(s) programmed] and subsequently found, are now scrap and unable to be used.

Now this applies to that exact type of smart key. The later keys that have a different appearance, can generally be recovered and added back if lost and then found again, for instance.
