Substitute oil pressure sender advice
I have an electric, Smiths PE2300/00 oil pressure gauge and I need a new sender for it. Can anyone recommend a compatible replacement? I contacted the US rep for Smiths and he said the original is no longer available. This is for a 1970 Land Rover but he said this gauge was commonly used on Jags. I'd like to keep the original gauge if possible. Any ideas?
You may want to look at this page (Jaguar E-Type Oil Pressure Gauge Series 1 - Caerbont Automotive Instruments | Manufacturers of Smiths Instruments (smiths-instruments.co.uk)). That may have what you are after. Odds are, you are going to end up swapping the gauge and sender. Granted, you may want to ask the question of "what is the resistance of the sender" and then that will give you the key bit of information that you will need in finding a new compatible sensor as then you simply need to match up a 60 psig sender that has the same resistance. That will keep your gauge accurate and then you just have to worst case get a fiting that adapts from the threads in the block to the new sensor. HOpefully they will be the same threads.
