Default WDS, PTU problem.

Hi,

Looking for some help/guidance with my WDS. I bought a XK8 with electrical an electrical fault (another story). Someone has tried to repair the car already. The car came with a WDS system.

I have pluged the WDS System in the docking station comes to life. When I turn on the PTU The the first and fourth lights from the left come on green. The fifth light flashes on and off at the same rate. The screen remains blank. From the manual it shows the fifth light as a diagnostic light. Would anyone have any idea what the light means and what to do.

I uploaded my WDS manual from Jaguar training. It is a 25MB .pdf I copied from my paper student guide. Maybe someone else uploaded a similar version with a smaller .pdf file size.

It is in the large file download area. (jaguar wds .pdf)

Thanks Bob.

Turns out my battery pack is missing along with the battery circit board.
Is it possible to run the PTU without the battery pack? if not could I adapt a battery conditioning circit board from a laptop battery to make the unit work?

Little update. Cant find a source for a new 9.6v battery.
Changed the internal 3V battery as was dead. Light 5 is off and no longer
flashing as a result.

Conected external Monitor and keyboard. Keyboard lights up on starting but all screens remain blank. No sure where go next.

I'm sure the battery pack is required.
I got faults when the battery pack was faulty and people report faults when the battery circuit board fails.

I usually unplug my battery when I am not going to use the PTU for a week or more.

You need to find or duplicate the battery pack.

Don't know if this will help but there is a local company here in New Brunswick that makes batteries for everything including custom applications. If you can't source locally this is an option. Clear Power Solutions Inc | Energy New Brunswick | Home Let me know if I can help with shipping

Hi Jeff thanks for the offer. I have managed managed to obtain a battery pack.
My problem now is that I can't get windows 98 to load in normal mode. I can start windows in safe mode. But not sure where to go after that.

I had a new software put on another hard drive. Both the new software and hard drive separate from the original hard drive.

On start up windows 98 stops loading on the windows splash page using either hard drive.
Do I have a problem with my PTU. Or can I change a setting in safe mode to let it start up?

usually when windows won't start normally but will start in safe mode, it is a driver issue or an issue with a program that automatically starts. Selective start up for diagnostics can be accessed in safe mode by typing msconfig in the run command box

Jeff

Looks like you were right. Turned of the driver called Advanced power management supply.
Windows loads ok now. But now after going Through the WDS touch screen calibration. Computer wants to load the blue disc but WDS freezes up at that point. Could that driver stop WDS loading?

I'm searching for the WDS Training Manual you referenced. I've searched other threads but no luck. Can you advise me where the "large file download area" is located please? Thanks!

I've made my own battery pack for the WDS...as long as you have some weird circuitboard attachment.

If you have the old battery, you can make a new one.

I cobbled together an adjustable 30A power supply.

I have replaced the battery pack with six 2,800 mAH sub-C NiCD batteries. There is a small heat switch that has to be brought over from the battery pack, but it is just a case if soldering two wires at each end of the battery pack. The black wire goes from the negative post of Battery #1 while the red wire goes from the positive post of Battery #6, all meeting back at a three position female plug.

Maybe the PDU needs that circuit?
