Advice on brake hoses at 3rd service for XE diesel
Dear CRC
My service plan with Crewe Jaguar finished last week, and as I am entirely satisfied with the service from this excellent dealership, I have taken out another one. However, I was advised that at the next full service in 2 years time, (or another 21k miles), that Jaguar now insist that all four flexible brake pipes are replaced at a cost in parts of £300.. I was told this was a mandatory item not a recommendation.
I have to say, I am rather nonplussed by this, as this is the first time I have come upon a recommendation like this in 60 years of driving. Normally, one would expect the vehicle inspection to detect deterioration of items like this and a recommendation to replace. The service staff at Crewe Jaguar were unable to explain the rationale behind this recommendation, so I am contacting you to ask if you would pass my message on to the Jaguar service department for an answer. I should say, at this juncture, that I was a motorcyclist for many years before driving a car, and tyres and brakes were always of paramount importance to me, and items that should never be neglected, but I am rather puzzled that brake hoses cannot apparently last longer than 6 years ! My car, an XE 20d Portfolio, is now on 32k miles, so, as you can see, is well below an average mileage for a four year old car, so this additional and rather costly item has come as a bit of a shock.
Yours sincerely
