You're rather out of date (i.e. wrong) about Jaguar. That's why they've won surveys and so on.

This perspective would be correct IF we saw USA as the entire world, something Americans do frequently. There are many parts of the world where you could not give away a Ford. Unless it was a Ford designed and built in Europe. Such as the Ford Focus.

Quality is very easy to get known for: Look at audi, they had to leave the USA market entirely due to quality concerns, and now they doing extremely well.

Also- as someone that has lived in both continents; there is a massive conspiracy to keep Americans in the dark and behind times. For what reason I do not know.

This is the best example: In the 80s, in Europe. we had 2 Ford cars that were absolutely untouchable and won every rally and race they were entered into- they dominated every circuit. These attainable cars were the Escort Cosworth and the Sierra Cosworth.

During the same time in America, the same Ford was selling utter garbage called Escort and Taurus. Which were not even remotely in the same league as their European counterparts and never won a damn thing. They are no even collectible, not true of the European versions. Go figure.

interesting about the Euro version of the Ford Escort Cosworth , a good friend of mine in FLA. had one shipped over back in 80s, and it was a ball to drive.

shocked a lot of guys around Daytona!

Yanno. There just isn’t enough mucking on the Duratec platform. I do my own reasons and the problem with that is I’m now “that guy” Who put a turbocharged 3.5 Mazda in my 2002 Xtype 5speed (five speed implied, not shown as example)

I got a set of headers custom made, need O-bungs welded have pipe cut bungs for all 3 O2 sensors.

would like to know if there is an interchange bible anymore? Seems plausible and would change plan direction significantly, turbo without the oil bucket junk just regular & bigger valvetrain? Build my own 3.5V6T

I don't think its a conspiracy. The OEMS know that the average American doesn't care about high performance, road feel and feeling connected to the road.

When the original ground breaking Euro S50 3 litre M3 was launched with almost 300 bhp from a 3 litre, Ford research in the USA dissected and analysed this engine to the nth degree. I learned a lot from this as I was starting my career. But decisions are made to keep pedaling out engines like the Ford Vulcan engine for the USA. COntrast this with Hyundai/Kia who really don't know what they know and don't know.

When you see folks criticize the BMW 328i engine M52- all aluminium, super light weight (from 96) because when you 'over heat them' the studs pull out of the block. They don't even realise how stupid that sounds! Another anecdote is the old GM 3.8 litre cast iron V6, I know stories of this engine running with zero coolant (old 80s variants with no ECU overheat cut off) , overheating. Then a new water pump is installed and the system filled up and the engine is ready to drive again with no problems. FOlks here give sooooo much kudos to that engine because of this. The engine is embarrassing in terms of Bhp/litre (even the supercharged unit with an M90 makes about the same power as the N/A Jaguar AJV6 3 litre as mounted in the old S type).

This explains why terminally boring cars that reduce driving to drudgery like the Toyota Camry are worshipped by the mainstream in the USA. Its probably why there's a segment of society that worships Electric cars now. Its what the mainstream Americans value.

Even the drag race fraternity is very focused on 1/4 mile times and straightline times rather than connection with the road and great transient handling.

what I will say is that over here there are less restrictive and punitive regulations to inhibit you, so in theory you can be into whatever you want. The same cant be said about Europe.

It IS, but no where near as bad as Germany or Italy. The inspections they do in California are pretty much just emissions systems.

Its true that they don't like Engine swaps in cars newer than the mid seventies.

The UK MOT regs are quite stringent and restrictive, but folks can do engine swaps and stuff on cars not THAT old. California relaxes these kinds of regs altogether on cars older than about mid seventies. So UK vs California in terms of regs, may be about the same , may be slightly worse in California. It really depends on what you have. 200 cell cats on a Jag would be illegal in California for road use. How easy would they be to install in the UK and use? You can probably answer that better than I.

On the other hand- my Euro Spec grey market BMW M635CSi (no catalytic converters etc as they were originally in the 80s) wouldn't be legal to drive in California but I'm sure I'd have no problems driving it in the UK.

They're OK (so long as they don't keep causing codes). Yes we do engine swaps sometimes, I suppose mostly when bad things have happened!

(It's OK for the MIL to be on as the MoT rules are right now but that's never going to last! OTOH can't have ABS/etc fault lights on. MoT still cares about emissions a bit but safety far more.)

I doubt if many forum members will read this post in an old thread. You should post your question in a new thread, or in the XF section.
The Rover long block is likely the same as the Jaguar version. I doubt if anyone has done this conversion on the late model V6 engines.
Pop the Hood of an XF and a Rover and snap some images to see/compare if the bolt on items like AC, alternator, pwr steering are located in the same place. The more subtle issues of sensors and controllers will take more work to determine. Perhaps other forum members in the XF section will know.
