Default Acronymns and Basic Jag Terminology

Hey guys, we need a FAQ that has all the good acronymns for parts, internet lingo, etc...plus the 'britiish' slang that we did in a couple threads. Start with other forum acronym pages, then make it our own.

I need volunteers to draft, format, and post...whereon, we'll copy/paste/and claim as our own. j/k, the creator will be given credit for its conception.

I nominate JOsworth as creator, Jag Po' and jagV8 as editors (and making it enjoyable to read), and motorcarman as our technical adviser. <- I say this is our dream team!

I tell you what, first to jump in and volunteer can take these positions. I'd like to have a page created and published by June 6th. Deadlines...gotta love 'em!

Who's in??

I'll work on it... I've got tons of free time.... Getting married on June 12th, take care of a 10 month old on the weekends, constantly fixing up the house, full time job (ok that's a strech if anyone reads my post times...)

All kidding aside it sounds neat. How should we format? Attach a document that is added to? Use Word? Use Excell? Create an Access Database? OK, that last one was a joke......

So, count me in...

I'm in as far as I can. I have a ton of jag/car TLAs (3-letter acronyms) but they're all sensible LOL
(And a ton of longer things)

Jeff, do I pm them or stick them here? No idea how this should be organised, tho - and the biggest problem how do we get newbies (and not so newbies) to refer to 'em? Especially as Search ignores all TLAs due to ignoring anything 3 or fewer letters

The fact that it will be a FAQ should do it, John.

Oh yea...You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.....

As to how this will start out, at least in draft form, is to use this thread.

All my creators - start a single post in this thread, and just keep adding/editing it yourself. JOsworth, you'll have one, JagV8, you will too. Jag Po will have his way 'tweaking both of yours thru his own post, and Bob will make sure any technical snippits are correct, and direct, let's not get too wordy with the project.

Once all of your individual posts are looking good and ready for 'submission', i'll take the content resulting from all of your hard work and compile it all into one FAQ thread that will be at the top of the NEW MEMBER section and the Forum Help and Suggestion Center. Alas, you'll each be internet famous...to some degree.

Others who wish to 'suggest' or recommend other terms/acronyms, simply add to the thread and first creator/editor that grabs it first to add it to their post, gets it.

After a brief intro paragraph, I envision a section listing typical forum speak, like IIRC, BTW, etc up top, then vehicle parts/system acronyms, then the 'british' terms that we can have some fun outlining...remember the windscreen, good 'nick', boot, bonnet...etc.

Have fun with this guys, its just for us.

Other than the stock market in a volatile 100 point dainy swing, three movies underway and 30 Jag cylinders to keep pumping, I'm just looking for something to fill my time.

I may have a little colorful dialogue to throw into the deal. But other than that, I'm basically useless knowing if a bonnet is what Aunt Mildred wears to church on Easter Sunday or the part of the car you lift up and look into when it breaks down hoping to find an On/Off switch rather than a lot of metal and rubber with some curious relationship with each other.

I'll try to check in and participate when I get the chance. At times I am waiting on parts so I can read eMails and read/comment on this forum. Sometimes I am working on cars and skip a day or 2 but I try to get caught up. I have worked 'for and with' Brits in repair shops since the early '80s so I am up to speed on 'posers, getting pissed, and going to the lew'

Jag Po', I wasn't expecting any more

Great Bob, technical adviser is perfect for you then, just make sure nobody calls something it isn't...or if you want to add something to aid in the proper 'definition', takes but a second to post it up.

Thanks so much for helping guys, no rush... hardest part is getting started.

spanner - a wrench
tattered (tatty) - in poor condition
petrol - fuel, more expensive than a good bottle of wine per liter

A little bit is put together. Work is driving me nuts (you'll notice my level of posting is waaayyy down). I just got back last night from Phoenix. Along with the kiddies and my ongoing saga with the body work done to my car... Look at it this way... If I don't have a post up for edit by Monday, ban me....
