Default Ads are getting ridiculously annoying

So...this is a bit much, even for IB who is known for "aggressively milking the ad cow".

If I have to start closing stuff just to read content I won't continue to contribute here.

Its bad enough that over 50% of space is consumed by ads/useless crap vs. contributed content.

Please do better IB and appreciate your patrons more than you now seem to be doing.

I haven't had any issues with ads. Are you using a mobile device or pc?

Windows 10 using Chrome. No special ad blockers used here.

If a site has so many ads that I need to employ my own tools to avoid them, then I typically will just avoid that site. Not playing the ad whack-a-mole game.

Ultimately its the sites that need to be responsible about their advertising.

I get that sites need to make money, and I have zero problem with small ads of relevant interest. Sorry but a Dell ad doesn't meet that standard to me. Particularly a full screen modal popup that is intentionally getting in my way.

As I asked earlier, please do better. We deserve better.

You weren't logged in. Logged in sees fewer ads. It has been that way for quite a while. Although the site is free to access and use for personal use, it is not free to operate. There are less and less sites owned and operated by a single person, compared to 20 years ago, in part due to the time and resources needed to keep a site online and updated.

I did not notice that I had been logged out. I did not log out AFAIK. Why would that have happened?

Doesn't really change my opinion of ad usage, particularly modal popups that cover the entire screen. That's dark UX stuff right there.

More and more I see websites looking at their patrons as sheep to be sheared vs the people keeping them employed.

Something (blank/broken ad?) seems to be pushing the content I WANT to see all the way off the bottom so all I see is a blank screen unless I scroll.

In this pic I scrolled so you can see that I am still logged in.

I keep getting the "blank" at the top of a lot of pages now. You are right that a refresh seems to fix that specific page. Seems like something is broken somewhere.

Back to the annoying ads....got another one today while adding pics to an album. Gordon Gecko would be in awe of the greed involved here.

Yeah, this ad is REALLY helpful to me. Another FULL SCREEN modal. Thanks so much IB for showing me this while I am trying to add content to your site. It makes the process so much easier.
