What have been your issues or concerns with this car?

I have lusted after a MK 10 for a few years now and finally got one, a 1962 version.
even though it is NOT a V12, oh well it sure could use one though.
I wanted a right hand drive car but this one was such a DEAL!!

Default Owned both Mk 10 & 420G

Hello HSB

I owned a late model Mk 10 4,2lt MOD and had many years of fun with the car. It had the better braking system than the older bellows on the 3,8lt models.
Power was good and the road holding and comfort was exceptional. I swopped mine for an XJ-S for no reason.
Last year I got a 420G because I had such fun with mine previously. Put a picture of yours in your garage for all of us to see.

Hello HSB,
We are still driving and enjoying the Silver MK 10.
No restoration is planned for some time yet. We took it on a 350 Kilometre drive on Sunday (May 5) it followed the 1949 Daimler without even the slightest complaint from either car.
I tell you though, driving the Daimler and looking in the rear view at that MK 10 had me falling in love with it all over again. Seeing it in full side view as we waited for the Jag to turn a corner behind us was an incredible sight.

Local newspaper columnist with photographer were driving the MK 10 doing a story on the local Jaguar club here.

So, where can we see pics of your 420G?

Love to see it.

I hope this thread isn't totally dead. In the fact that I hope there are some fellow MK X owners still checking it.

I am now the proud owner of "Gramma" (after my favorite Grand Dam):

1965 MK X - 4.2 with just over 80k miles.

She lived most of her life in the South West and California (hence the license plate). She is clean as a whistle.
Couple of dents here and there but for 60 years old, I hope I look as good.

I have two questions currently. I am hoping for some expert advice from some of the collectors/restorers out there.

1 - I just found out after receiving her, (from a copy of the previous owners email to Jay Leno asking if he wanted her) that she has a replacement engine, done in 1991, that is 1972 XJ6 XK engine. So my question is how important is it, from a full restoration perspective, that the numbers match?

2 - Which is more fun to drive Gramma or my 1999 XK8?

I got to drive her up the driveway so far, but I think the timing is off, or the sparks, or the distro, or the distro <> carb link. She pops smoke out of the first carb when I try to drop her into D1.
Luckily her previous owner really loved her. I have all the records from him, the original bill of sale when she purchased in '65, a full service manual, and notes galore as he fought his way through learning her temper mentalities.
I am pretty sure the fuel pumps need looking at. The door seals (well actually all the rubber) need replacing. And whats with the B-pillar covering? Its like the original engineers thought glue was good enough...

Anyway, Enjoy the Smile.

Well, as you might have read (but dismissed as heretical), I am driving a newly acquired Mk 10 that I converted to electric. Perhaps your post helps justify my motive: the previous owner had much love for the car, but was not successful in keeping it running well. As was the PO of your car. I'm driving mine often, with no worries about the engine. I have a long list of improvements to make over the winter, but nothing related to how it moves.

Wherever it goes, it gets a lot of attention. More than any of my other vintage vehicles, which includes Porsches, a Frogeye Sprite and a Mercedes Unimog. I even came home in it with a trophy from a 1000-car show. It is the most comfortable car I own (in suitable weather, that is).

I wish mine were your color, though.

Good luck!

Well, I am also glad this thread is not dead!
I am still here, I still have Jaguars, but sadly the MK 10 was sold. It is still around Toronto somewhere.
An electrified MK 10 eh?
Funny, there was an electric Series 3 XJ 6 just north of Toronto. I invited the owner to a Jag club meeting once.
We were really looking forward to seeing it. However... he had to cancel last minute because...
Wait for it..... electrical problems.. Let the jokes begin!
I never saw it, but hopefully this MK 10 works well and stays on the road.

Also, Mrs V12 is 15 years older than those pics, and she still looks every bit as good. I tell her she reminds me of a Series 3 XJ Saloon, there are no bad angles.

I do have a few MK 10 420G parts for sale. I have a set of petrol tanks in good shape, and I have a nearly full set of wood for the interior.
I remember it being a 64 MK 10? I also have a full brake unit. I mean the pedal, the booster, the master cylinder etc. Its not the early bellows type.
I also have complete tool boxes and one empty one.
Facebook is where I will start advertising.

Cheers then,
I have a zoom meeting now.

Electrical problems - no surprise there. For my conversion, I had to crimp hundreds of pins to insert into jacks and plugs. The battery management system alone needs to know the voltages of all 84 cell groups and the temperature of all 14 modules. I tried to be very careful, but a few wires pulled out of their pins. I somehow avoided trouble out on the road and a flatbed home. This was in the first months of driving, late last year; the 2025 season has gone without incident. Maybe all the other crimps are good? I sure hope so - fixing some meant pulling out a 400-lb battery box, opening it up, and poking around high voltage DC.

My Mk 10 did not come with an XK engine, but I know they are lovely things. My engine compartment is not lovely, so I leave the bonnet down at car shows unless someone insists on seeing what I have done.
