Default Two (XJRs) in one.

Last year I got a front and side (doors) damaged silver XJR. All of the coolers, and even the front airbags has gone with a lot of "smaller" parts, but otherwise the car was in good overall technical and esthetical shape. It was standing for more than a year in my garden in this condition, so I reconnected the coolers pipes, keeping the engine startable. It was necessary to avoid inside rust, and engine's "drying out".

Now I bought a black XJR, with much higher mileage, faulty gear box, and worse condition interior, that could be a donor for my silver XJR, and I even will be able to save a lot of spare parts for later, which will be useful when I will use my rebuilded silver car.

I would like to refresh this thread with pics, as the works are in progress, but I have little spare time, and I would like to take attention on all of the little details, so I won't be able to do it very often.

I'm new member, so no pics attachment for the time being.

Thankfully now I've got full forum access, so here are the pics about my cars:

If you look at the pictures, you may ask, why the black one for donor instead of the silver, but that car has so many corroded points and problems, that I had to choose that way.

Nice project, if you need any advice I can certainly help. Here's a picture of my 100 being transformed into a new bodyshell.

Last weekend I worked some hours on the cars.
I replaced the damaged doors, the right side seat belt with the fastener, took off the cylinder heads covers and checked the chains (OK ) + cleaned the covers inside-outside. More cleaning was on the throttle body and a lot of connector (wheel sensor, abs, TB,....). Changed some wrong bulbs in the gauge panel, and cleaned with electric contact spray the connectors of the instruments. I would like to do some more parts checking, cleaning, before the front end of the car will be repaired.

BTW, I just noticed that the wheels on the damaged gray car should be from X300 XJR , I assumed they used a different rim in X308s , may be I am wrong whatever

they are X300 wheels, maybe someone with an X300R swapped them out with the wheels on the X308 after it was wrecked. I have always been a fan of the X300R wheels since they are a bit XJ220ish

As I get deeper and deeper in the Jag's world by jaguarforums, that wheels seemed to me more strange on this car, so thanks for the answers sirs.
Anyway, these X300R wheels give a indestructible or sure of oneself look for the car, in my opinion. Later I will measure, which are the lighter, the original five spokes x308, or these?

Last weekend works. Changing the two front airbags. If you would like to use a 1998 XJR steering wheel airbag in a 2000.08 XJR, not enough to replace the airbags, with it's front leather cover, you have to change the rear plastic too at the back of the steering wheel. I learned it now. These were not the same in the two cars.

There weren't differences around the passenger front airbags, I just replaced the wood panel, to match the 2000's car interior.

More find. The clock are not the same. The 1998 car has more expensive look clock (in my opinion) with hard glass cover, so I replaced it with the 2000's car cheaper looking (sorry)clock.

At the right side is the older, and more beautiful clock.

A drained out the oil of the trans in all of the two cars, and took off the pans for cleaning. Differences again. There were a 2x3 inches magnet grille at the bottom of the older (1998) car's pan, but the newer one has only magnetic drain screw in the pan. ???

Hi Steve, you're dealing with 2 versions, the AJ26 and AJ27 cars, there will be differences that you're discovering!

How are you getting on with the front end work? have you checked that the front chassis rails are straight and the subframe undamaged? If the airbags have deployed, it must have been a big shunt!

Hi Sean, thank you for the information, and the questions. I'm learning every day something new about these cars. I'm just hoping, that there won't be much more differences, and I can use the parts from the 1998's.

Fortunately the car met with the pillar between the two chassis rails, exactly in the middle of the front. The big thick (body colored) pipe between the rails has curved, but did not pull the rails end closer to each other, "only" the front end frame damaged (that is point welded to the rails). The stabilizer arm curved, and unfortunately the crossmember pipe (black) which is welded to the front of the subframe curved too. So I have to replace the front suspension subframe from one car to the other. I hope thats are all the same.
