Default 15x6 wires on a 65 Mk2?

The old chrome wheels on my car are past their time. I'm looking at new wires, MWS offers nice grey painted (I want to paint black) wires, in both 15x5 and 15x6.

It seems the 5 inch are cheaper, but less tires that are more expensive, vs. the 6 inch wheels have more cheaper tires available.

According to my calculations, the 6 inch wheels have 12mm more backspacing. I will measure my car this weekend to see if that looks like an issue, but I'm wonder if anyone has experience fitting 15x6's to a mk2?

I'm happy to remove the spats, am more concerned about the inner suspension bits. Thanks

Hi Don,

I put the MWS 15x6 chrome wire wheels on my MK2 last year. No problems. I have 195/70R15 Dunlop tyres on them.

Cheers,

Stu

Fantastic. Stock front end? Did you have a specialist mount the tires or a regular tire shop? I'm debating paying alot more and driving all day to a guy who specializes in wires vs just having them done up at the local place.

Yes, stock front end.

The regular tire shop told me that they could mount the tires, but could not properly balance them. What good is that?

My indie said, "when I purchased my tire mounting/balancing unit forty some years ago, there was an adapter included. It's been sitting on the shelf for forty years because I never knew what it was for. Now I know"!

He was then able to mount and balance the tires using a minimal amount of weights.

I have attached the mounting/balancing instructions that were packed with the wire wheels.
